By the power of Grayskull, Amazon’s upcomingMasters of the Universereboot has the power! The studio and streamer’s new take on the beloved ‘80s He-Man cartoon debuted its first footage at CinemaCon, with behind the scenes images and details revealing that the reboot will stay as true as possible to the beloved cartoon and toys while using both practical effects and CGI to bring the fantastical world into live-action.
The footage, while brief, did include “shots of He-Man’s sword and the iconic dialogue “By the power of Grayskull!” as well as a “blend of practical and VFX effects,” along with “physical sets and accurate costumes from the cartoon series.” You can check out a description of the footage below, which comes courtesy of ScreenRant:

We see a lot of practical effects (mixed with VFX of course), accurate costumes from the cartoon, and huge physical sets. It ends with He-Man’s hair blowing in the wind.

Nicholas Galitzine is looking every bit his Prince Adam persona in set images from the upcoming ‘Masters of the Universe’ reboot.
It was revealed back in May last year thatRed, White & Royal BlueandBottomsstar Nicholas Galitzine will take the lead and portray the ‘80s icon in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’sMasters Of The Universereboot, which is all set for release on July 03, 2025.ParaNormanandBumblebeedirector Travis Knight will helmMasters of the Universe, with Amazon MGM Studios stepping in after the projectwas suddenly canceled at Netflix. The script has since been rewritten by Knight’s long-time collaborator, Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings), and will be based on the initial draft penned by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee.
The reboot has amassed an all-star cast alongside Galitzine as Prince Adam, AKA He-Man, and includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, James Purefoy as King Randor, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena Glenn, and MCU star Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, with action icon and star of the 1987Masters of the Universeadaptation,Dolph Lundgren, recently teasing a possible cameo.
‘Masters of the Universe’ Promises To Be All Kinds of “Fun”
Several cast membershave now teased the “fun” that will dominatethis new take onMasters of the Universe. Discussing the movie recently, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, who stars in the reboot as Malcolm, AKA Fisto, teased the “fun script” that will shape this new take on He-Man. “We’ve got a really fun script that everyone in the cast loves,” he said. “We can’t wait to get on set and perform it. That will be great.” Meanwhile, co-starCamila Mendes teased Nicholas Galitzine “funny” takeon He-Man, saying:
“I feel like if I were to tell you that, it would completely give away a huge plot point, but I think it’d be his sense of humor. He’s very funny, very talented, and very funny.”
Initially set for release on Netflix fromThe Lost Citydirectors Adam and Aaron Nee and starringWest Side Storyactor Kyle Allen as He-Man, the project was scrapped in July 2023. Reports at the time claimed that the streamer had spent somewhere in the region of $30-60 million on its development, and that ballooning costs were the main reason why the live-actionMasters of the Universewas ultimately canceled. Considering the costs, here’s hoping that Amazon’s efforts are as successful as they have the potential to be.
