Following the success ofThe Angry Birds Movie, which slingshot to nearly $350 million in worldwide box office and launched a global movie brand, Columbia Pictures in association with Rovio Entertainment Ltd. are once again joining forces on the next high-velocity adventure as the flightless birds and scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level in The Angry Birds Movie 2.Sony Pictureswill distribute the sequel. The sequel is set to hit theaters on June 29, 2025, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the original Angry Birds game.
The Angry Birds Movie 2will be directed by Thurop Van Orman (The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack,Adventure Time). Van Orman recently worked at Disney and Sony Pictures Animation. The film will be co-directed by John Rice (King of the Hill,Rick and Morty), who served as lead storyboard artist onThe Angry Birds Movieand directed the popularAngry Birds Hatchlingsshorts.
The film will be produced by John Cohen (Despicable Me, The Angry Birds Movie). Peter Ackerman (FX’s “The Americans,” Ice Age) is writing the screenplay. The talented team at Sony Pictures Imageworks will once again be handling the animation for the film, which will be with the collaboration of Sony Pictures Animation. Also returning from The Angry Birds Movie will be production designer Pete Oswald and character art director Francesca Natale. The Angry Birds Moviefeatured a voice cast that included Jason Sudeikis as Red, Danny McBride as Bomb, Josh Gad as Chuck, Bill Hader as Pork Side, Maya Rudolph as Matilda, Peter Dinklage as Mighty Eagle,Sean Pennas Terence, Keegan-Michael Key as Judge Peckinpah, Kate McKinnon as Stella, Tony Hale as Ross, Ike Barinholtz as Tiny, Tituss Burgess as Photog, Billy Eichner as Chief Pig, Jillian Bell as Helene the Lunch Mom and Blake Shelton as Earth Pig.
