The origin story is a popular trope in comic book movies, but the Wasp is going to be different inAnt-Man 2, according to actress Evangeline Lilly. Scott Lang had his origin story as Ant-Man in the first movie and he had a bit of a hard time getting the hang of being a superhero throughout the Marvel adventure, and even into bits ofCaptain America: Civil War. The hero seems a little incompetent. However, Hope van Dyne will have it a little easier.
In a recent interview, Evangeline Lilly, revealed that her origin story will be quite different than the usual run of the mill origin story inAnt-Man and the Wasp. Lilly’s Hope character spent a lot of time getting Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang intofighting shape, so she already has an advantage, since she’s been training for this since long before she met up with Lang. There’s going to be fewer mistakes for an origin story that we’ve ever seen. Lilly explains.
“You’ve never seen a superhero origin story with less blunders. She knows what she’s doing, and she’s been grooming herself for this moment her whole life. The satisfaction in watching her finally get to live it out is really fun.”
Evangeline Lilly’sHope van Dynewas arguably the better person for the job when it came to the Pym technology during the events of the first film, but Scott Lang had the superior thieving skills. Plus, Hank Pym didn’t have an emotional attachment to Lang, so it really wasn’t too big of a deal if he was killed during the operation. However, the stakes will be a lot higher inAnt-Man and the Waspwith both Hope and Scott fighting side by side.
In otherAnt-Man and the Waspnews, it was reported that the movie wasundergoing reshoots, which is a standard practice, but it appears that these reshoots were going to completely redo the opening scene. Rumors suggest that the movie tested positively in screenings, but viewers were not really into the opening scene, hence the reshoots. Nothing has been announced officially, so this is speculation at this time. We’ll find out soon enough when thehighly anticipated sequelhits theaters this summer.
Ant-Man and the Waspwill reportedly take place after Scott Lang was busted out of the Raft prison, where Lang was placed at the end ofCaptain America: Civil War. The Marvel Cinematic Universetimeline will place it before the eventsofInfinity War, even though it comes out afterwards. As far asInfinity Waris concerned, Ant-Man hasn’t been featured in any of the promotional footage or posters, leading many to believe that he will have a pretty interesting role when the movie hits theaters in a few weeks.
