Jason Momoahas made it clear that the future of Aquaman is in the hands of the public, as he prepares to return to the big screen as Arthur Curry inAquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However things don’t look set to go swimmingly for the fishman of Atlantis’ domestic debut, with the movie projected to open lower than November’sThe Marvels.
As perDeadline, the Aquaman sequel is expected to land a $40 million opening across its four-day weekend debut, falling just short of the $46 million thatMarvel’s lowest performing moviemanaged early last month. Although this paints a bleak picture for the film, on an international front, Momoa’s latest outing is expected to fare a little better, with an opening of around $70-80 being anticipated.

As the sequel to one of the DCEU’s only$1 billion movies, it is a strong indicator of how far the franchise has fallen in the last few years. Whether Momoa’s charm will be enough to carry the film aboveThe Flash, Shazam! Fury of the GodsandBlack Adamis yet to be seen, but as Momoa has indicated himself, this seems to be the end of the road for his time as Aquaman.

Jason Momoa Believes His Time as Aquaman is Up
Jason Momoa has been quite vocal in his appreciation for his time as Arthur Curry in the DC Universe, but in recent interviews, the actor has suggested that he does feel that this is the end for the hero.
In a recent interview withEtalk, Momoa once again addressed what he believes it would take for him to return again as Aquaman, whether that is as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU or an Elseworlds project. He said:

“I think it’s a really great movie that sums it all up. You get to see where he’s at, and it’s a pretty cool journey. It’s been 12 years, and the DCEU is at its end. I think this is one of those movies that you want to see it all get tied up, and I think it’s a really good way to finish it all. Unless… I mean, listen. It is a big universe, and who knows? The cool thing is, it’s up to the fans. But we did a great job, I think the fans will be very excited, very proud. I’m extremely proud of it.”
For now, the only thing guaranteed is that Momoa’s fans will get the chance to see him hit the big screen as Aquaman this Christmas for his final huzzah inthe closing chapter in the DCEU. Of course, Momoa does have plenty of other projects on the way, including appearances in the animated comedyAnimal Friends, crime dramaHand of Danteand the 11th entry in theFast & Furiousfranchise. Also teased for the future are a buddy-cop comedy with Dave Bautista, an alternative DC role as Lobo, and his leading role in afilm adaptation of the popular game,Minecraft.
