There are some people who clearly expectedArnold Schwarzeneggerto deliver a heartfelt and emotional performance in Netflix seriesFUBAR, and they are the ones who been disappointed enough to give the action show its low Rotten Tomatoes score that is hovering around 50% with critics. However, that hasn’t hindered the attraction of seeing Arnie take on his first small screen role, as those who just want to see the Terminator star deliver some witty quips as be blows stuff up have flocked to to make sure the series has rocketed to the top of the Netflix chart.
The tale of the tape is simple. As has happened with many crowd-pleasing Netflix offerings, critics simply aren’t impressed by rehashed stories – asFUBARis a a thinly veiled retake onTrue Lies– and a series that is all about giving its star reasons to kick ass and make things go bang – something that audiences really want to see. TheRotten Tomatoes consensusalludes to this by stating that the story “borrows liberally from star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s early career triumphs.” The real question is why try and change the one thing that had consistently been the driving force behind Arnie’s decades of success?

When it comes to audience ratings, it is clear to see why the show has gone straight to the top of the daily chart, as it delivers exactly what those tuning in have expected from the action hero’s first, but possibly not last, live-action TV series. With the show being an unbridled success so far, andArnie clearly having a good relationshipwith the streamer, we can probably expect to see him on the platform much more in future.

FUBAR Has Been A Surreal Dream Come True For Its Showrunner.
For a life-long Arnie fan,FUBAR’s showrunner Nick Santora has found it almost impossible to actually believe that he was given the opportunity to work with Schwarzenegger. While in many cases they say you shouldn’t ever meet your idols, it seems that Schwarzenegger is very much an exception to the rule. Speaking to Neflix’s TUDUM earlier this year, Santora said:
“FUBAR is, by far, the most surreal project of my career. I grew up watching Arnold Schwarzenegger films –– I’d hit my dad up for a few bucks so I could race to the movies and see the biggest star in the world on the big screen –– so creating the first scripted television project for Arnold is unbelievably exciting for me. The thing I always marveled at was how Schwarzenegger could be funny while still kicking ass… that’s why I wanted FUBAR to be a hysterical, CIA-spy comedy mixed with heart-stopping action! And it is all that — and more. I’d love to elaborate with more details, but sorry, it’s classified.”
HowFUBARcopes in the long term is something that we can only wait and see, but it had certainly arrived with a bang, both physically and metaphorically. All we really need to know is, will he be back?
