“Oops, I did it again.” These four words appear in bold print above a postMarc Guggenheimwrote on Substack.com, via hisLegalDispatch, last Friday (February 23) in response to news that the Arrowverse co-creator “talked about a sequel series” withSuperman ReturnsandCrisis on Infinite Earthsactor, Brandon Routh. Here’s how Guggenheim addressed and clarified his original comment (viaSubstack):

“One such follower asked if I had any promotional photos of Brand[on] Routh as Superman from the Crisis on Infinite Earths event that I showran. Thinking nothing of it, I posted what I had on my Dropbox and casually mentioned — because I thought it was a fun little nugget — that Brandon and I had talked about some kind of ‘sequel series’ for his version of Superman.”

The version of the Man of Steel Routh portrayed during the CW’sCrisis on Inifinte Earthscrossover event was a nod to author Mark Waid and writer/artist Alex Ross’Kingdom ComeSuperman. Guggenheim continued:

“Well, that little comment kinda went viral. A friend of mine, a comic shop owner, texted me that suddenly his Facebook feed was nothing but articles about the comment — some of which exaggerated said comment into a ‘possibility’ (there is none that I can reasonably conceive of) or even ‘talks’ (which haven’t happened, unless you count Brandon’s and my little chats).”

Guggenheim’s ‘Innocuous’ Comment

According to Marc Guggenheim, his “talks” with Brandon Routh about a “sequel series” have gone no further than between theArrowverseco-creator and the former Man of Steel actor. It’s undoubtedly disappointing to DC fans that discussions about aKingdom ComeSuperman show have only been exchanged between Guggenheim and Routh. Guggenheim continued addressing the “innocuous” comment he originally made on X by posting screenshots of several headlines relating to having“talked” to Routh about a sequel series. Guggenheim went on to say in the same Substack post:

Arrowverse: How to Watch Every Series in Order

The Arrowverse has become an intricate shared world TV franchise. Here’s a guide on how to watch the key shows from it in a simplified order.

So, according to Guggenheim, his “innocuous” comment wasn’t meant to tease a possible SupermanKingdom Comesequel coming to fruition in the foreseeable future, which would follow up Routh’s appearance in the CW’sCrisis on Infinite Earthscrossover event. That may well be the case, but someone with Guggenheim’s intelligence and business know-how, which is clearly evident from his contributions toGreen Lantern(2011),Arrow, Legends of TomorrowandSupergirl, arguably must have known what would happen when he posted the following words on X: “Brandon and I have talked about a sequel series. We have some really exciting ideas…”

The implication of those words is something even Superman fans without X-Ray vision can plainly see. Now, be sure to check outGuggenheim’sOops, I Did It Againpostin its entirety on Substack.com right now.
