Ubisoft’s highly-anticipated video game adaptationAssassin’s Creedhas been filming in Malta for just over a month, but, unlike many productions, we haven’t seen too many photos from the set thus far. That all changed today when Ubisoft’s head of contentAzaïzia Aymarpaid a visit to the set and shared the first photos from hisTwitteraccount. Unfortunately, we don’t get a glimpse at starMichael Fassbenderor any of the otherAssassin’s Creedcast members in action, but we do get our first look at the Abstergo Industries logo, along with directorJustin Kurzel.
In theAssassin’s Creedvideo game, Abstergo Industries is a multinational corporate conglomerate, which also serves as the primary front for the modern day activities of the Templar Order. It isn’t known exactly how Abstergo will fit into thisvideo gameadaptation, but at least now we know the corporation will be present.Michael Fassbenderis portraying two distinct roles, Callum Lynch and his 15th Century descendant Aguilar. The story follows Callum, who descends from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
Ubisoft Motion Pictures president Jean-Julien Baronnet recently comparedAssassin’s Creedto hit movies such asBatman BeginsandBlade Runner. Instead of farming the game out to a major studio, Ubisoft launched their own movie division, developing bothAssassin’s Creedand their upcomingSplinter Cellin-house, before teaming with New Regency and 20th Century Fox to finance and distribute these movies. Jean-Julien Baronnet revealed that they spent four years developingAssassin’s Creedbefore it went into production.
Over the weekend,Azaïzia Aymarrevealed in aTwitter Q&Athat they are taking aStar Warsapproach to building theAssassin’s Creeduniverse. It has already been confirmed that the movie adaptation will be set within the video game world, but it will tell a completely different story. Ubisoft hasn’t unveiled an officialsynopsisyet, but hopefully we’ll hear more plot details soon.
