Hawkeyeis the latest addition to the roster of MCU TV shows, following a rather dark and aging Clint Barton who takes in the young and talented archer Kate Bishop under its wing. Although the series takes place two years after the events ofAvengers: Endgame,it features some iconic scenes from the earlier movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, fans onReddithave recently pointed out a major continuity error during theAvengersflashback sequence inHawkeye.
The famous sequence from the firstAvengersfilm, with the fight between the Chitauri army and Earth’s mightiest heroes, features in the latest Disney+ series as well, but not quite accurately, as fans have pointed out.Hawkeyeshows these events from the 2012 film from the point of view of Kate Bishop. The Chitauri attack that devasted New York was also what caused the death of her father. However, as Kate is seen gazing upon the Stark Tower in the aftermath of the attack, it is seen that the letters S, T, A, and K are all intact on the iconic building.
However, as fans might recall, the letter ‘K’ was the first to fall off theStark Towerduring the infamous attack. This continuity error, although seemingly insignificant, has been bugging fans as they have come to expect nothing but perfection from MCU.
The Avengers Flashback Sequence was Recreated from the Scratch in Hawkeye
Given that the scene was recreated for the show, and that it was a rather elaborate one, this slip-up in continuity is quite understandable. The franchise did something similar inAvengers: Endgameas well, where Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Ant-Man are sent to 2012 to obtain the Tesseract.
Director Rhys Thomas talked toTheWrapabout recreating this nine-year-old battle for the opening sequence ofHawkeye:
The whole thing was completely done brand new, it was all new off the showroom floor, except there was one moment of Jeremy leaping off the building that we [used]… But we also had to shoot the other side. So we had our double recreate the leap as well. I had this great chance to look at dailies from the original ‘Avengers,’ which was kind of cool.
The opening events ofHawkeyenot only tie the next-gen archer Kate Bishop with theMCU, but it also serves as the Deus ex machina for her, an event that pushed her to be what she is now.
