If both casts forBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeandSuicide Squadweren’t big enough by themselves already, anepic group photohas brought everyone together for the first time. This is the Dawn of theDC Cinematic Universe, and everyone is accounted for…Except that peskyJared Leto, who is so method, he can’t break from character to do press. Good and Evil collided over the weekend atComic-Con, and while plenty of new footage and photos have come from the event, onlyTHRwere able to get both casts in the same room at the same time for what is one very big picture. They have also included a handy graph explaining who everyone is.
17 actors in all participated in the photo shoot, which was done in secret. They were joined by their directorsZack Snyder, who is handling the big battle between two of DC’s mosticonic superheroes, andDavid Ayer, who is bringing the world’s most dangerous super villains together for the first time. From theBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicecast, we get to seeHenry Cavill(Superman),Ben Affleck(Batman),Amy Adams(Lois Lane),Gal Gadot(Wonder Woman),Jesse Eisenberg(Lex Luthor),Jeremy Irons(Alfred) andHolly Hunter. On theSuicide Squadside of things, we get to seeMargot Robbie(Harley Quinn),Cara Delevingne(Enchantress),Jai Courtney(Captain Boomerang),Will Smith(Deadshot),Joel Kinnaman(Rick Flagg),Viola Davis(Amanda Waller),Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje(Killer Croc), Karen Fukuhara (Katana),Adam Beach(Slipknot) andJay Hernandez(El Diablo).
While both sets of cast members held down quart inHall Hduring the big SDCC Warner Bros. event, they did not share the stage together, coming out at different times. These photos mark the only time the two casts have been together, anywhere. And for many of the actors it was the first time they had ever met each other in person.Ben Affleckis the one actor who shares the distinction of appearing in both movies. And we even got to see Batman clinging to the roof of The Joker’s purple sports car in the firstSuicide Squadtrailer. There is some speculation thatJared Letowill have a cameo inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceas The Joker. Even if that isn’t true, the new full-length||Batman V Supermantrailer proved that the iconic villain will have a presence in the movie, as it is strongly hinted at that he killed theDark Knight’s sidekick Robin.
At this once-in-a-lifetime meet-and-greet,Jai Courtneyenthusisactially introduced himself toJesse Eisenberg. The actor who plays Lex Luthor made waves yesterday for his remarks about Comic-Con in general. He compared the annual geek gathering to genocide, and went onto insult journalists to boot. But the actors seem to be having fun backstage.Cara Delevingnemade sure to snap a selfie with Wonder WomanGal Gadot. AndDavid AyerandWill Smithare said to have attacked the snack table, devouring sandwiches and other assorted treats before the BVS cast could arrive, leaving little behind for their franchise cohorts.
WhileBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicehas wrapped,Suicide Squadis still shooting in Toronto. The cast was in a hurry to get back on set, where production will last throughout the summer, most likely wrapping in September. The director and his actors had been working until 1am that Friday morning, and were in Hall H by 11 am on Saturday, which meant they got little to no sleep. They only spent a total of three hours in San Diego, though not everyone was returning right away. On stage,David Ayerclaimed that DC Comics had the best villains of all-time, dissing Marvel in the process, and threatening to kick off a East Coast-West Coast type beef with the competing studio. The footage he showed off, which was leaked and then officially released early this week, is dark and brooding. But the director assures everyone that it will be funny to boot. Aside from the first footage, not much was divulged about the storyline, with onlyWill Smithallowed to speak. He promised fans something great. And it looks like that’s what we may be getting if the film holds true to the teaser.
Take a look at this great moment, which brings both the bad guys ofSuicide Squadtogether with the good guys ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. There seems to be a friendly rivalry brewing between the two casts, and over the next five years, we’ll surely see that play out on screen as well. What do you think? Will these guys be able to compete with Marvel in the long run? We think it might be a pretty even race if everything holds up.
