Earlier this month, a report surfaced that Paramount’sBaywatchadaptation is eyeing actressesAlexandra Daddario,Nina Dobrev,Ashley Benson,Alexandra Shipp, Shelley Hennig, Bianca A. Santos and Denyse Tontz for thefemale leadrole. Earlier today, starDwayne Johnsonrevealed on hisInstagramaccount thatAlexandra Daddariohas landed the role of Summer, while teasing that the casting of C.J. Parker, originally played byPamela Andersonin the original TV series, is coming soon. Here’s what the actor had to say in a statement to hisInstagramfollowers.
“IT’S OFFICIAL: Want to welcome the talented and gorgeousAlexandra Daddarioto the cast ofBaywatchfor the role of “Summer”. Alex is a one of kind woman (I know from experience) and can’t wait for you guys to see her own the role. The female roles ofBaywatchhave become extremely hot properties around Hollywood and as promised, the quality women we’ll cast are stepping into these roles to have fun and make them iconic for the world to enjoy. The #BaywatchFamily so far consists of a tatted up bald guy named Rock, the cool, yet extremely unattractiveZac Efron, the talented and gorgeousAlexandra Daddario…and some big casting announcements coming soon. And juuuuust wait til you guys see who we cast for the iconic role of ‘CJ Parker.'”

In the originalBaywatchTV series, Nicole Eggert portrayed Summer Quinn, so it seemsAlexandra Daddariowill be portraying that character. It hasn’t been confirmed yet ifDwayne JohnsonandZac Efronare playing characters from the original series, but this project will reuniteDwayne JohnsonwithAlexandra Daddario, after they played father and daughter in this summer’s blockbusterSan Andreas. It isn’t known when exactly these additional casting announcements will be made, but we’ll keep you posted.
The story will center onDwayne Johnsonas a by-the-book lifeguard, who teams up withZac Efron’s character, a young wild card, to save their beach from the environmental destruction caused by a nefarious oil tycoon. While little else is known about the story,Dwayne Johnsonteased last month that the adaptation will definitely beR ratedand it is also believed to be more comedic and action-heavy than the series. Production is slated to begin in early 2016, although Paramount hasn’t set a release date at this time.
Seth Gordon(Horrible Bosses) is directing from a screenplay most recently written byDamian ShannonandMark Swift(Friday the 13th). Justin Malen (Bad Teacher 2) wrote the original draft of the script, with Dwayne Johnson also producing alongsideBeau FlynnandIvan Reitman.
