Ben Affleckis back in action for a new Netflix movie calledAnimals, and thanks to new set footage, fans have been given a first look at the upcoming thriller. The project is one of two films he’s starring in and producing through Artists Equity, the joint company he has with long-time friend and collaborator Matt Damon, and the fourth he’s starred in for the streaming platform. Filming began in early March of this year, but new on-set photos taken in the LA River reveal the gritty action side of this political thriller, as reported byWhat’s On Netflix.

Animalswas originally supposed to star Affleck’s forever friend Matt Damon but it’s suspected scheduling conflicts prevented the collaboration. Damon is starring as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s next film, which is an adaptation of the epic Greek poemThe Odyssey. So, instead of shooting it out in the storm drains of the City of Angles, Damon will be trekking from Troy to Ithaca in leather sandals. While dipping into purely dramatic roles, Affleck has stayed consistent in his action offerings over the last 25 years, andAnimalslooks set to be another classic addition.

Ben Affleck’s Long-Awaited Action Sequel Debuts Thrilling New Footage

Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal mean business in the new footage from ‘The Accountant 2.’

The official logline of the film reads:

“When the son of L.A. Mayoral Candidate Milo Bradford (Affleck) is kidnapped, he and his wife (Kerry Washington) have just hours to come up with the ransom. With their finances drained by the campaign trail, they’re forced to take matters into their own hands—exposing a side of themselves they never intended to see the light of day. Gillian Anderson plays a fixer, while Steven Yeun stars as the candidate’s campaign manager.”

Los Angeles Is The City of Action

There is something magical about action films set in Los Angeles. The car culture expanse and the erstwhile orange glow of the high-pressure sodium bulbs streetlights make the cool night air crackle on film as cops and criminals try and stay one step ahead of one another.Heat, Drive, Training Day, Boyz N The Hood, and To Live and Die In LA, to name just a few, all capture something unique about the grit that’s just under the surface of LA’s tooth-veneer-bright image. From the on-set photos ofAnimals, one can see shotguns, a duffel bag, cigarettes, and storm tunnels - some of the main ingredients to make an LA thriller.

Production onAnimalsis set to end April 16th, but no release date has been set yet. The film also stars Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Kerry Washington, Ray Fisher, and Luis Gerardo Méndez.
