After a year that has seenBen Afflecksuit up twice as Batman for Warner Bros.‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeandSuicide Squad, the actor-filmmaker is getting behind the camera once again, starting production today onLive by Night. Earlier today,Ben Affleckshared the first shot from the first day of principal photography, which showcases two unidentified actors, an older man and a young boy, walking along a wooden path. With production just getting under way, hopefully the filmmaker shares more images from the set.

Live By NightmarksBen Affleck’s fourth directorial effort, following 2007’sGone Baby Gone, 2010’sThe Townand 2012’sArgo, which won the Oscar for Best Picture. This also marks the second time the mutli-hyphenate has adapted a Dennis Lehane novel, followingGone Baby Gone, with the filmmaker writing the adapted screenplay himself. Theadaptationwas initially supposed to start filming in 2013, but that didn’t happen because the actor committed to starring inGone Girlfor 20th Century Fox andBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicefor Warner Bros.

Live by Nightis based the novel of the same name byDennis Lehane, which follows Joe Coughlin (Ben Affleck), the son of a police captain who gets dragged into the world of organized crime. The story is set in the Prohibition Era of the 1920s.Zoe Saldanaalso stars as Graciella Suarez, who Joe meets while he’s on business in Tampa.Sienna Millerplays Emma, who Joe falls for towards the beginning of the story, whileElle Fanningplays Loretta Figgis, a sheriff’s daughter and aspiring actress who gets into trouble. The supporting cast also includesChris CooperandChris Messina.

Warner Bros.’ had initially set a December 25, 2015release dateback in 2013, which was then pushed to August 10, 2025, and now the studio is planning on releasing the adaptation sometime in 2017.Ben Affleckis also producing alongsideLeonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Jennifer Todd. It isn’t known how long principal photography is slated to last onLive by Night, but we’ll keep you posted with any updates from the set.

There have been rumors that Warner Bros' was so impressed withBen Affleck’s Batman performance inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, that the studio offered him a deal to star in and direct a stand alone trilogy of Batman movies. That hasn’t been confirmed yet, but withBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeandSuicide Squadslated for 2016, andLive by Nightset for 2017, there certainly won’t be any shortage of the actor on the big screen over the next few years.
