TheBeverly Hills, 90210revival is officially happening at Fox. Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling are all set to return to the six-episode “event series.” Spelling has teased the show throughout the past year and fans have been curious as to what it is was going to be about. Another set of questions revolved around the inclusion of Luke Perry and Shannon Doherty, but it appears that they will not be involved with the new revival series.
TheBeverly Hills, 90210cast was spotted meeting up late last year, which seemed to prove the previous rumors that the revival was confirmed. Tori Spelling had originally teased that thecast were going to be back, but playing heightened versions of themselves, which is exactly the case with the new limited series. The cast is heightened versions of themselves shopping a reboot ofBeverly Hills, 90210, according to Fox, which sounds very much like something that Larry David would do.
At the end of last year, it was revealed that the cast and crew were shopping theBeverly Hills, 90210revival series to networks andstreaming platforms. The idea was reportedly pretty popular with a number of people interested in making the show a reality. However, Fox was the winning bidder. Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn had this to say about the revival series.
“Beverly Hills, 90210left anindelible impact on pop cultureand an entire generation. Its powerful legacy is an important part of our network’s DNA - bold stories not told anywhere else and bigger-than-life-characters - and we’re honored to bring back the beloved original cast members for 90210.”
The idea for the90210revival series came from Tori Spelling, Jenny Garth, and executive producers Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler. Alberghini and Chessler previously worked on The CW’s90210. All six original stars will be credited as executive producers on the limited series. At this time, there are only six episodes planned and it is unclear if the network or the producers will try and do more after the initial revival is released. Even if they only do the six episodes, this project has the potential to be massive.
The90210revival series is all set to be released this summer, though an official release date has yet to be announced. With that being said, the show will more than likely begin production soon, so we should get some set photos in the coming weeks of the reunited cast.Shannon Dohertywas famously fired from the original series, so it doesn’t seem likely that she will be back. Luke Perry is currently starring in the CW’sRiverdaleand could make a cameo if his schedule allows for it. Regardless, this idea sounds like it should be a lot of fun for fans of the original series.
