Almost exactly one year afterKatie Cassidy’s character Laurel Lance, a.k.a. theBlack Canary, was killed off in anArrowSeason 4 episode, the beloved actress is returning to the series. It has been confirmed thatKatie Cassidywill be back as the Black Siren, appearing in the final two episodes ofArrowSeason 5, before returning as a series regular inArrowSeason 6.

“One of the things that most excites us aboutArrowis that we go where the story takes us. Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelgänger,Black Siren. We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back toArrowas Black Siren, though as her appearances onArrowandDC’s Legends of Tomorrowthis season show, she never really left the family.”

Entertainment Weeklybroke the news ofKatie Cassidy’s return, although the site didn’t have any details about how Black Siren’s return will affect the current Black Canary, Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy), who is now part of Team Arrow and has a Canary Cry. Black Siren was last seen in the mid-season premiere, Who Are You?, where she was locked up in anA.R.G.U.S.facility after she tried to kill Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards). Here’s what executive producerMarc Guggenheimtold EW after the mid-season premiere aired.

“The episode ends with laying a very specific seed with a very specific game plan on our part that we hope to see come to fruition.”

Despite being killed off onArrow, it was revealed at Comic-Con thatKatie Cassidysigned a deal with The CW, that allowed her to be a series regular on all of The CW’s superhero shows, such asArrow,The Flash,Legends of TomorrowandSupergirl. Other CW stars such asWentworth MillerandJohn Barrowmanhave similar deals intact, that allow them to freely move from one show to the next, although they have primarily appeared onLegends of Tomorrow, where their characters Captain Cold and Malcolm Merlyn help form the Legion of Doom. Cassidy will next be seen on theLegends of TomorrowSeason 2 finale, entitled Aruba, which airs Tuesday, April 4 at 9 PM ET on The CW.

It remains to be seen ifKatie Cassidy’s return as anArrow series regularwill mean that she’ll be unable to cross over onto shows likeLegends of Tomorrow, through her deal with The CW Network. Regardless,Arrowwill certainly be delighted to have her back. The final two episodes ofArrowSeason 5 are slated to debut Wednesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 24 on The CW. This season continues with the 18th episode, Disbanded, which airs Wednesday, March 29 at 8 PM ET on The CW.
