Golden Globe winnerRobin Wrightis in final negotiations to joinRyan GoslingandHarrison Fordin Alcon Entertainment’ssequeltoRidley Scott’s 1982 masterpieceBlade Runner, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’sBroderick JohnsonandAndrew A. Kosove. DirectorDenis Villeneuve(Sicario,Prisoners) is directing. Principal photography is scheduled to begin July 2016 and the film will be released by Warner Bros. in North America, Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in all overseas territories in all media.

TheUntitled Blade Runner Projectis set several decades after the 1982 original, withHarrison Fordreprising his iconic role asRick Deckard. The film is written byHampton FancherandMichael Green, and succeeds the initial story byFancherandDavid Webb Peoplesbased onPhilip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Story details, as well asWright’s character, are not being revealed.

Alcon Entertainment acquired the film, television and ancillary franchise rights toBlade Runnerin 2011 from the late producer Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin to produceprequelsand sequels to the iconicscience-fictionthriller. Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will produce along withJohnsonandKosove. Bud Yorkin will receive producer credit.

Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.Ridley Scottwill also executive produce.Wright’s upcoming projects include Wonder Woman from directorPatty Jenkins(Monster) where she will star alongsideChris Pine(Star Trek) andGal Gadot(Fast and Furiousfranchise). She can currently be seen onSeason 4ofHouse of Cardswhere she reprises her Golden Globe winning role asClaire Underwood. Wright is repped by CAA.

Warner Bros. recently set a July 26, 2025 release date for theUntitled Blade Runner Project, where it will go up againstGnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomesand an untitled 20th Century Fox/Marvel movie.
