Thanks to several photos from filming, we now have our first look atCobra Kaistar Xolo Maridueñasuperhero-suited up as DC heroBlue Beetle. Sharedacross social media, the images show the young actor with both mask on and mask off, with the black and blue costume cutting an impressively comic book accurate figure. Something which will no doubt look even better when in motion.

The look ofBlue Beetlehas been teased previously courtesy of somestunning concept art for the movie, and it certainly looks as though that vision has successfully made the leap into live-action.Further imagestease an action sequence fromBlue Beetle, during which the hero lands on, and destroys, an unsuspecting civilian’s car.

While the suit already looks surprisingly majestic, it’s worth bearing in mind that comic book costumes often look worse when shown in natural lighting on set. So, considering that the suit already looks pretty impressive in these images, it is sure to look even better when it has been churned through the movie-magic machine.

While not much has yet been revealed aboutBlue Beetle, it has since been revealed that the project will focus on Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, who is in fact the third person to take up the Blue Beetle mantle. Much like the Blue Beetles before him, Reyes gains his powers after discovering a “sacred scarab,” which attaches to his back and morphs into the black and blue battle suit allowing him to fight both street-level crime and embark on loftier missions in space.

Created in 2005 by comic book superstars Keith Giffen and Cully Hamner alongside Hollywood screenwriter John Rogers, the relaunch of the character with Jamie Reyes, a Mexican-American teenager, under the blue armor proved to be one of DC’s most successful new launches in decades, with Reyes going on to feature in multiple comic book runs and animated shows, as well as a popular live-action one-off onSmallville.
