Blue Mountain Statewas a college football comedy TV series that ran for three seasons on Spike TV in the early 2010s, and starredReacher’sAlan Ritchson as linebacker Thad Castle. The show developed a cult following when it streamed on Netflix, and in Feb. 2024,it was announcedthat the series would get a fourth season from Lionsgate Television, with stars Ritchson, Darin Brooks, and co-creator / actor Chris Romano returning. And now it looks like Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video may give the greenlight very soon, according toDeadline.

The show centered around a fictional Midwest college calledBlue Mountain State, and its powerhouse football team, the Mountain Goats. It followed the main and backup quarterbacks, Radon (Page Kennedy) the egomaniac and Alex (Brooks) who would rather be partying as the backup and hanging with the mascot (Romano).Ritchson’s Thad was the team captain and fairly hardcore about football and hazing incoming freshmen. The comedic show had all the hallmarks of a Spike TV show: college football, drinking, partying, sex, and hazing. It currently has an89% positive rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but no critical rating.

Alan Ritchson as Reacher

Amazon MGM Studios was quick to pick up the new season last year, with co-creators Romano and Eric Falconer expected to return. And thanks to just how popularReacheris on Prime Video, the show is being fast-tracked, and they are working with Ritchson and his team to fitBlue Mountain State(BMS) into his busy schedule ahead of an official greenlight.

Ritchson was at the Daytona 500 over the weekend and had this to say:

“We’re actually setting it up with Amazon. We are going to make a fourth season happen; I’m trying to work it into my schedule. Honestly, I think it’s going to be the best season of BMS we’ve ever had. It is so damn funny, and it’s perfect, the way we resurrect the characters and bring them into the way that things are now.”

There was a ‘Blue Mountain State’ Movie

This isn’t the first timeBlue Mountain Statehas received a sequel of sorts. Back in 2014,Ritchsonand the producers launched a Kickstarter to help fund a movie. And soon after, they succeeded in raising $1.5 million and the film,Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland, was released on Jun 03, 2025. Written by Ritchson, Falconer, and Romano, the film seescollege senior Alex throwing a huge party to help convince Thad, now in the NFL, to purchase the Goat House before the Dean can shut it down.

‘Reacher’ Spin-off Gets Huge Update Ahead of Alan Ritchson’s Return This Week

The ‘Reacher’ spin-off centered around Maria Sten’s character has finally received a major update.

The movie pretty much followed the template of the show, featuring non-stop partying, nudity, drinking, and more. It had to be edited down to avoid an NC-17 rating. It currently sits at a terrible 46% audience rating on RT without a critical rating. The film quickly went to Netflix, landing on the streamer on Aug 03, 2025.
