Last week, Marvel held its world premiere forCaptain America: Civil War, as fans impatiently await this superhero adventure’s arrival in theaters May 6. Theearly reviewshave been quite positive thus far, with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Many fans are wondering if the movie will break records at the box office. A new report fromThe Hollywood Reporterreveals that the early tracking numbers are in, and that the movie could make anywhere between $175 million and $200 million over its three-day opening weekend next month.
IfCaptain America: Civil Warmanages to hit the $175 million projection, it will be the fifth highest opening weekend of all time, behindAvengers: Age of Ultron($191.2 million),The Avengers($207.4 million),Jurassic World($208.8 million) andStar Wars: The Force Awakens($247.9 million). The movie will also be the only movie opening in wide release on May 6, and with the positive reviews posted thus far, it’s not terribly surprising to hear that it could make between $175 million and $200 million. Still, we’ll have to wait until the weekend of May 6 to find out for sure how well this thirdCaptain Americaadventure fares in theaters.
