There has been little reason so far not to get excited for the upcoming penultimate film inTom Cruise’s iconicMission: Impossiblecinematic franchise,Dead Reckoning - Part One. There’s very little doubt that audiences will turn out in droves to see Ethan Hunt’s story begin its epic conclusion, and many of the actors given the chance to be a part of it have not been shy about giving the film the respect it deserves. One of them is series newcomerCary Elwes, and during an interview with Collider at the red carpet premiere in Rome, Italy, the actor had nothing but praise, calling the movie the biggest action blockbuster in history.

TheMission: Impossiblefranchise has come a very long way since the first film debuted back in 1996. The brainchild of its lead star Tom Cruise, the films all but transformed the action genre completely, and set an entirely new standard for a true cinematic experience. Director Christopher McQuarrie, who has been on board the franchise since the fifth filmRogue Nation(2015), embraced Cruise’s fierce dedication to his craft, and seemingly superhuman ability to performthe most outrageous stunts ever seen on screen. The two have since become a force to be ‘reckoned’ with, so to speak, and the reputation of the franchise has since drawn some of the industry’s greatest actors, who all want in on the action. Just a few have included Jeremy Renner (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery), Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die), the late Philip Seymour Hoffman (A Most Wanted Man), Henry Cavill (The Witcher), Alec Baldwin (Joker), Rebecca Ferguson (Dune: Part One), Wes Bentley (Yellowstone), and Angela Basset (Soul). The latest installment welcomed aboard Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Charles Parnell (Top Gun: Maverick), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Shea Whigham (The Gray Man), and of course Cary Elwes (Stranger Things).

“That’s what they pay us to do. I happen to love what I do for a living, so for me, it’s exciting. Whatever they want me to do, I’ll do…short of jumping off a cliff or doing some insane stunts like Tom Cruise. Other than that, you got me. I’m excited for [audiences] to see the film because it’s the biggest action blockbuster of all time. There’s no question about it. I thought it was gonna drag. I’m like, “Wait a minute, that’s over already?” It was insanely fast. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. That’s Chris McQuarrie, our director, he’s a genius. And our editor Eddie Hamilton, brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.”
