Last week, directorGeorge Millerrevealed that he has two scripts ready for sequels to his beloved blockbusterMad Max: Fury Road, but the filmmaker wants to make a smaller film before he returns to this post-apocalyptic world. During a new interview withDigital Spy, the filmmaker revealed that one of the main characters inMad Max: Fury Road,Charlize Theron’s Furiosa, will not appear in the next sequel. Here’s what the filmmaker had to say, revealing that she may turn up in the second sequel instead.

“I’m not sure, is the answer. She’s not in theMad Max[sequel] story, but in one of the stories there’s an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. I can’t really say more than that because it’s still in progress.”

You may recall thatCharlize Theronherself revealed in August that she hasn’t heard about any plans for aMad Max: Fury Roadsequel, and that she had only signed on to star in that film, not any future follow-ups. It was rumored that the next movie is titledMad Max: The Wasteland, but the director now says that is only a working title, and it may not be the official title for this next sequel. Here’s whatGeorge Miller, reiterating his plans to make a smaller movie before going back toMad Max: Fury Road.

“That name came out, that was just a working title. Nico Lathouris and I wrote deep backstories on all the characters and they eventually became screenplays - so we have two [more movies]. I’m happy to say that there’s discussions about them right now, but I hope the next film I make is very small without any special effects and not many stunts.”

The director wouldn’t shed any light about his next movie, but it seems that plans are certainly moving forward on sequels toMad Max: Fury Road. You may recall that, way back in 2010, it was reported thatMad Max: Fury Roadwas going to be shot back-to-back with another movie, then entitledMad Max: Furiosa. It is believed that theMad Max: Furiosastory line was eventually merged intoMad Max: Fury Road, and while we certainly may see Furiosa again, it doesn’t seem that she’ll be an integral part of the story. What do you think about these new details?
