Cher plays an eccentric single mother named Rachel in this flick based on a novel of the same name written by Patty Dann. Her oldest daughter Charlotte, played by Winona Ryder, and youngest daughter, Kate (Christina Ricci), move with Rachel to a small town in Massachusetts. It’s a great movie showcasing a mother/daughter relationship when things don’t really go as planned, and how differences sometimes don’t make families closer. Charlotte is constantly upset with Rachel for how carefree she is and Rachel often chastises Charlotte for being so uptight, this being a constant argument throughout the film. However, Cher and Winona Ryder play wonderfully off each other and give the movie a real life taste of parenthood and familial ties.
