In an exclusive interview withMovieWeb,Star Wars: The Clone WarsstarJaime Kingrevealed that writer, director, producer, and one of the current faces ofStar Wars,Dave Filoni, “never thought he’d be able to do live action.” King, who voiced a variety of characters inStar Wars: The Clone Wars, was also adamant that she still calls the Star Wars team her family.

“Always, always, always. Like, George and all his kids, Dave Filoni, I mean, honestly, when I say they feel like my family, they really feel like my family, and have been for a very long time. When Filoni and I started working on Clone Wars, he never thought he’d be able to do live action you. You know what I mean? To watch your friends grow and thrive, and to be there at the ranch when they’re writing these things and to be a part of it, and a part of the decision-making — like all of it, my relationship with Lucasfilm is so deep and so rich. I’ll do anything for them.”

Dave Filoni Becomes Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm After Mandoverse

Filoni, who was hired by George Lucas himself to overseedirection onStar Wars: The Clone Wars, has since become heavily involved in the franchise as a whole, becoming Chief Content Officer at Lucasfilm and producing and guiding the likes ofThe Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and more. Star Wars

“Robert [Rodriguez] taught me this. He’s like, ‘Listen, you pick your family.’ And that’s why there’s repetition with the people that he worked with, the same way that I’d like to repeat work with the same people. And there’s a dialogue and shorthand, it’s the kind of communication and connection that’s very difficult to describe, and a fierce loyalty, because you feel safe with them, and the safer that you feel, the more we can all push each other to really go for it and really create outside of our boundaries that we feel like we couldn’t do in other spaces.”

Now a key figure behind-the-scenes of theStar Warssaga, Dave Filoni continues to play a major part in the ever-expanding franchise. Filoni will helm his ownThe Mandalorianmovie, with director Jon Favreau recently confirmed to be directing another movie featuring Din Djarin,The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to go into production this year.
