In an emotional moment during last night’s Golden Globes Awards,Demi Mooremanaged to finally silence all doubters by taking home the trophy for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her work in Coralie Fargeat’sThe Substance. It was Moore’s first major award ever in her long career, and her first win for anything outside of being recognized as part of an ensemble cast since taking home the trophy for Best Actress at the Saturn Awards in 1991 for her role inGhost. Though they weren’t on hand to witness their mother’s win in person, a viral video making the rounds todayshows just what Moore’s three daughters thought of her historic win.

In a post shared onInstagram(see below), Moore’s three daughters, Scout, Tallulah, and Rumer Willis, can all be seen watching the Golden Globes as their mother’s name is called by presenter Kerry Washington. They erupt into thunderous cheers before the tears begin to flow, with everyone around them celebrating the moment. Also seen in the video are florist and perfumer Eric Buterbaugh, and photographer Amanda de Cadenet. The captain simply reads “SHE DID IT” followed by a number of crying emojis, signifying how overjoyedthe three were at their mother’s win.

Golden Globes Recreates One of 2024’s Best Horror Movies in Standout Moment

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley didn’t respect the balance at the Golden Globes.

Moore faced some stiff competition last night, beating out Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), Zendaya (Challengers), and Cynthia Erivo (Wicked) to take home the coveted trophy. The actress noted in her acceptance speech that “this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor,” before highlighting the fact that she always believed such a prize was never for her.

“30 years ago, a producer told me that I was a ‘popcorn actress,’ and, at that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something that I was allowed to have. That I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but that I couldn’t be acknowledged. And I bought it, and I believed that. And that corroded me over time, to the point where I thought, a few years ago, that maybe this was it. Maybe I was complete. Maybe I had done what I was supposed to do.”

With Moore’s Golden Globes win, the question now becomes: what will happen at the Academy Awards? Whether she manages to win an Oscar is secondary right now, as all eyes will be on the nominations when they’re announced on Jan. 17. In her more than four-decade career, Moore has never been in the running for the prestigious trophy, but her part inThe Substancemight change all that. At least it should, otherwise what’s the point of anything anymore?

Her performancein Fargeat’s body horror filmwas undoubtedly one of the best of the year, and deserves to be celebrated at the highest level. Yes, Gascón and Madison were wonderful inEmilia PérezandAnora, but with all due respect, Moore was in another stratosphere with her portrayal of Elisabeth Sparkle inThe Substance. If she doesn’t score a nomination, it will definitely be one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in the history of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

If you’ve yet to see it, be sure to check outThe Substancestreaming now on Mubi, or rent or purchase it on any VOD platform. Watch for Moore to pop up next in the sci-fi adventure comedyI Love Boosters, which is currently filming in Atlanta.
