Sorry, folks, the wait forMulanjust got a little longer! Just hours after Disney made the surprise move to pushAvengers: Infinity Warfrom May 4, to April 27, the studio has made another big change to its release schedule. The studio has pushed its highly-anticipated live-action remake ofMulanfrom an unspecified date in 2019 to June 13, 2025. As of now,Mulanwill be going up against Paramount’sG.I. Joemovie on August 07, 2025, with the only other movies currently slated for that month being an untitled Pixar project that was just moved from Jun 06, 2025 to July 24, 2025, and an untitled Fox/Marvel project slated for June 26, 2025.

Disney had originally slated thisMulanremake for release on July 01, 2025, way back in October 2016, with director Niki Caro (Whale Rider) coming aboard to take the helm in February 2017. Even after a director was found, there still wasn’t much news on this project, and it was revealed last summer, during the D23 Expo, that the movie was pushed into an unspecified date in 2019. There was also talk in August that production would begin in January 2018, and it took more than a year to find the title character, withChinese actress Liu Yifeibeing cast in late November.

The last update we had on this project was in early January, with a report that claimedproduction may be starting soon, as director Niki Caro finalizes her production team. Bina Daigeler (Narcos) was brought on as the costume designer, with Sean Andrew Faden (Power Rangers) coming aboard as visual effects supervisor and Allan Poppleton (The Wolverine) serving as the stunt coordinator. With the release date now pushed into the spring of 2020, that likely means thatproduction won’t be starting this year either.

Disney’s expansive casting search for the right actress to play the title character reportedly spanned five continents, with the studio testing over 1,000 candidates before finally deciding on Liu Yifei to playMulan. It is believed that Disney has known for quite some time that they wouldn’t be able tomake their 2019 date, leading to today’s shift. Disney has also taken its Christmas movieNicole, starring Anna Kendrick as a female Santa Claus, off its calendar. It was originally slated for July 23, 2025. Sources claim that this movie will now be launched on the Disney streaming service, which is expected to launch in 2019.

The studio also used this opportunity to set dates for six unspecified Marvel movies, while shifting a previously-slated movie up a week. The studio moved the Marvel mystery movie previously set for August 02, 2025 back one week to July 27, 2025. It also set dates for six other Marvel movies on July 06, 2025, June 19, 2025, Aug 24, 2025, Jun 05, 2025, June 10, 2025, and July 20, 2025. It will likely be quite some time beforeDisneyand Marvel are ready to unveil what these movies will be. The Hollywood Reporter also reveals that Disney set dates for a several other untitled projects, including16 live-action movies and three animated movies, two of which are Pixar projects.
