Star Trek: Voyager celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, first premiering on the small screen back in 1995. As the world ofThe Next Generationis now being revisited with the CBS All Access seriesPicard, some fans ofVoyagermight be wondering if theTNGfollow-up show might get some sort of reunion series or special as well.
There’s apparently enough interest in the possibility that word has made its way back to Jeri Ryan, who played the fan favorite character Seven of Nine onVoyagerand reprises the role for Picard.
Speaking on a potential reunion, Jeri Ryan admits she’d love for Seven of Nine to see some of herVoyagerpals again, but the actress doesn’t hold much interest in seeing a full-blown series revival. From ComicBook.com, here’swhat Jeri Ryan saidwhen directly asked about the possibility.
“Would I love to reunite with some of those characters? Sure, I think that’d be great. I don’t necessarily need to do aVoyagershow again. I think that I’ve done that. But I’m not a writer. I can’t really tell you anything.”
Ryan’s hesitance to return toVoyagermay also have something to do with how things were behind the scenes during her run on the show. Noticing a night-and-day difference toher experience shooting Picard, Ryan doesn’t seem to share the same nostalgia forVoyageras many fans of the series. Elaborating, Ryan had this to say about her time working onPicardcompared to her days on theVoyagerset.
“I’m having a great time on Picard. It’s a very happy set. It’s a very relaxed set, which has been great. I didn’t have a phenomenal overall experience shooting Voyager. I don’t look back on that as a super fun four years for me, unfortunately, so to be revisiting this character in a more pleasant work experience is great.”
Though she would becomeone of the show’s most popular characters, Ryan is not an original part of theVoyagercast, as Seven of Nine wasn’t introduced in the series until the fourth season. Some of the other parts ofVoyager’s memorable ensemble cast include Kate Mulgrew as Captain Kathryn Janeway, Robert Beltran as Chakotay, Tim Russ as Tuvok, Robert Picardo as The Doctor, Roxann Dawson as B’Elanna Torres, Robert Duncan McNeil as Tom Paris, Ethan Phillips as Neelix, and Garrett Wang as Harry Kim. The series also had many memorable guest stars, including actors from the original series andThe Next Generation.
With Seven of Nine onPicard, the door is open for the character to reunite with some of her fellow shipmates fromStar Trek: Voyager. With the series already renewed for a second season and with so many franchise favorites announced to return, there’s no telling who might be showing up on the show. Still, aVoyagerreunion may not happen onPicard, but even if it’s just for a brief reunion special for theShort Treksweb-series, it would be awesome to see the oldVoyagercrew back together one more time.
