The past few weeks have not been short on new reveals fromTransformers: The Last Knight, the fifth installment in this ever expanding franchise, and the final chapter to be directed by Michael Bay, who has helmed every live-action movie so far. Today, we get yet another reveal of a character we already know is coming back. Earlier in July, we got to see Drift’s new car mode. Today, we get to see the samurai’s upgraded robot mode.
Drift will be a black and red Mercedes-AMG GT R inTransformers 5. And it represents a completely new look for this fan-favorite Autobot. The character was first introduced on the big screen in 2014’sTransformers: Age of Extinction. He is voiced by Ken Watanabe. The actor returns to reprise the role a second time.

Seen as blue in his first screen incarnation, Drift is now very red, and very colorful. Perhaps even more so than franchise newcomerHot Rod, who is known for his flashy racing facade first introduced in the 1986 animated adventureTransformers: The Movie. Drift will be rocking a quad-blade samurai sword. And while his color palate may have changed, you’ll recognize that he has the same face and Samurai shoulder-pad look he had inTransformers 4. In that film, Drift was a blue Bugatti when transformed in car mode.
In related news, the folks over at Screen Rant were invited to the set ofTransformers 5, and have brought back a look at the officialTransformers 5logo, which showsOptimus Prime’s head with the roman numeral V.The Last Knightcenters on Optimus Prime, who has been searching through the cosmos for the Quintessons, the beings believed to be responsible for the creation of theTransformersrace.
