Five years ago this summer, theHarry Pottermovie franchise came to a close withHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, but most fans knew that wouldn’t be the last we’d see of this lucrative property. Sure enough, Warner Bros. announced in 2014 that a new trilogy will begin withFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which marks the screenwriting debut ofJ.K. Rowling. The story will be set 70 years beforeHarry Potterfirst set foot inHogwarts, although fans are still wondering if there will be any connections toHarry Potterand his magical classmates. As it turns out, one of the originalHarry Pottercast members is quite desperate to reprise his role in this prequel.

Michael Gambonplayed Headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the last sixHarry Pottermovies, after the death of Richard Harris. The actor recently spoke toExpress, revealing that he wants a role inFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Despite the fact that production wrapped last month, the actor put out a public plea to get the filmmakers to bring him back.

“I want to be in it, yes. They’ve got a Dumbledore. They’ll have a young Dumbledore, won’t they? But I could be his dad. They could flashback to me. Can you mention it to them if you see them? I’d like to be his dad.”

The big take away here is thatMichael Gambonhints that a young Dumbledore may have already been cast for the movie, though nothing confirms or backs that up. Not only is the movie set 70 years before theHarry Pottersaga, the story takes place in New York City, following the adventures of magizoologistNewt Scamander(Eddie Redmayne). Newt comes to New York with a magical case that is much, much bigger on the inside, which contains “expansive habitats for a collection of rare and endangered magical creatures from Newt’s travels around globe.” The plot thickens when several creatures escape from this case. It isn’t known if it would even make sense for Dumbledore to have a part in this story set in America. Then again, this will be the first of a trilogy, so it’s possible we could see Dumbledore in any of the follow-ups.

Katherine Waterston’s Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein and Alison Sudol’s Queenie Goldstein are the two female leads of the movie, magical sisters who encounter Newt Scamander during his travels in New York, whileDan Fogler’s Jacob Kowalski is a “muggle” (non-magician) who befriends Newt in the Big Apple. The supporting cast includesEzra Milleras Credence,Samantha Mortonas Mary Lou, Jenn Murray as Chastity, young newcomerFaith Wood-Blagroveas Modesty andColin Farrellas the wizardGraves.Ron Perlmanalso recently signed on to play a goblin, withGemma Chan,Jon VoightandCarmen Ejogocoming aboard for unspecified roles. Do you think that Dumbledore deserves a place inFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?
