The day before the fourth of July,Herediatarywriter-director Ari Aster’s new brightly-lit nightmareMidsommarwill be unleashed into a theater near you. And from what we’ve been hearing about the movie lately, it’s going to be one wicked ride. Hell, even the movie’s lead star Florence Pugh was shaken up by the flick. TheBlack WidowandThe Little Drummer Girlactress took to Twitter to let us all know that she had finally had the chance to sit down and watch the movie, and it gave her a slight bit of trauma.
Specifically,Florence Pughtweeted this.
“So.. I saw it. I’m currently sat. Staring. Wide-eyed at my food. Midsommar is one helluva ride folks.”
So just to keep all of this straight; evidently,Ari Aster’s new movieis so damn disturbing and scary that even the people who were there while it was filmed are still getting shaken up by the final product. Good to know! And Pugh’s statements seem to be in keeping with the killer word-of-mouth that has been seeping onto these here internets following the movie’s pre-screening at the Alamo Drafthouse in New York City, back on June 18th.
In fact, the movie currently holds a stellar 93% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: “Ambitious, impressively crafted, and above all unsettling, Midsommar further proves writer-director Ari Aster is a horror auteur to be reckoned with.” Not to mention the powers that be behind the scenes at the MPAA recently slapped this new “Wizard of Oz for perverts” flick with ahard R-ratingfor “disturbing ritualistic violence and grisly images, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and language.” Hell, even that MPAA description is more graphic than most people would like to read out loud in public. That’s pretty intense.
