FormerInsecurewriter and story editorMike Gauyois making the rounds for his new showSend Helpon which he serves as co-creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer. Indeed, it’s in our exclusive interview promoting the series that Gauyo reveals his dream job of writing anMCUmovie about the beloved Marvel Comics character Jericho Drumm, a.k.a Brother Voodoo. “I’m going to manifest that I write the Jericho story,” he said.
Starring Jean Elie, who, perComplex, also serves as the show’s co-creator,Send Helpfollows Haitian-American actor Fritz (Elie) as he balances pursuing a career in Hollywood while taking care of his family back home in Boston in the wake of a family tragedy. Streaming on AMC Network’s streaming platform ALLBLK, the show explores the effects of grief and loss specifically from the perspective of a Black male character.

Significantly for Gauyo, who is Haitian-born,Send Help’s intersection of mental health, race, and immigration would apply to Brother Voodoo. “It’s great because Jericho is a therapist in the Marvel world. I want to be able to continue to explore that when it comes to men, when it comes to Black men, when it comes to immigrant men because Jericho is all of those things — and he’s a Marvel hero,” he said in our interview. “To be able to apply all of [those themes] to someone that is heralded in the Marvel community would be amazing, especially as a Haitian person and Haitian writer, so I would love to tackle Jericho.”

Magic in the MCU is Further Expanding
At this year’s Comic-Con, Kevin Feige revealed the upcoming slate of releases inMarvel’s Phase 5and Phase 6, officially dubbing the new era of MCU movies “The Multiverse Saga.” WithLokiseason 2 currently in production, an upcomingBladeremake with Mahershala Ali, andAgatha: Coven of Chaosmarking Kathryn Hahn’s return as the eponymous witch Agatha Harkness, it’s clear that magic and supernatural themes are further expanding in the MCU. Earlier this year, in fact,Doctor Strangein the Multiverse of Madnessdove deeper into Strange’s world, introducing Charlize Theron as Clea, anew love interestand magical partner for Strange, in its mid-credits scenes.
Within Doctor Strange’s comics lore especially, Brother Voodoo plays an integral part and, in fact, takes over as Sorcerer Supreme. Back in 2020, there were even rumors of Jericho Drumm possibly making his MCU debut inDoctor Strange2, which excited many fans of the character. PerSyfy, this rumor was heralded as an opportunity for the franchise to “explore Black spirituality and acceptance.” Considering how important a role Brother Voodoo plays in Marvel Comics, and the fact that Feige and his team haveplanned the next ten yearsof the MCU, there’s a chance Voodoo could make an appearance down the line. Gauyo just wants to be the one to write it. “Give me the job,” he said with a laugh. “Hire me.”
