Marvel’s First Family must come together to stop the maniacal Doom in a new TV spot for 20th Century Fox’s superhero rebootFantastic Four, arriving in theaters nationwide August 7. These new scenes highlight the “clobbering” power of The Thing (Jamie Bell), as he literally rips off the top of a massive military tank. We also see Dr. Franklin Storm (Reg E. Cathey) tells this super-powered quartet that they have to work as a team to stop the evil Doom (Toby Kebbell).

Fantastic Four, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. Thesuperhero movieis adapted from the UltimateFantastic Fourcomics, which feature much younger heroes than the original foursome.

The supporting cast is rounded out byReg E. Catheyas Dr. Franklin Storm, the father ofThe Human TorchandThe Invisible Woman, andTim Blake Nelsonas Harvey Elder. In theMarvelcomics, Harvey Elder is eventually transformed into The Mole Man, but, from the footage released so far, it isn’t known if this transformation will happen in the superhero reboot.Josh Trankdirects from a script bySimon Kinberg, who also serves as a producer on this movie and on 20th Century Fox’s upcomingX-Men: Apocalypse.

The Fantastic Four 2sequel has already been put into development, but no director or screenwriter has been officially attached. A report surfaced earlier this month that the studio wantsX-Men: ApocalypsedirectorBryan Singerto take the helm, with the movie reportedly being planned to set up a crossover betweenFantastic Fourand the lucrativeX-Menfranchise. That report was never confirmed, and it isn’t known what the studio has planned for theX-Menuniverse afterX-Men: Apocalypse. IfFantastic Fourproves to be a hit next month, a crossover may very well be put into development.

Fantastic Fourwill debut in theaters against a slew of vastly different movies when it opens August 7. Also opening that weekend isThe Gift, starringJoel Edgerton,Jason BatemanandRebecca Hall,Meryl Streep’sRicki and the Flashand Lionsgate’s animated comedyShaun the Sheep.Fantastic Fourcould very well be the last big blockbuster of the summer movie season, but we’ll find out for sure when it hits theaters August 7.
