Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who recently wrapped up the first season of CBS’BrainDead, has signed on to star inFargo Season 3. The actress will play Nikki Swango, a “crafty and alluring parolee.” She joins a growing cast that includesEwan McGregorandCarrie Coon.

The actress will have aseries regularrole, with Nikki described as a woman with a plan, who is always a step ahead of her rivals. She is also said to have a passion for competitive bridge playing. It isn’t immediately known if Nikki will be connected toEwan McGregororCarrie Coon’s characters quite yet, since no further details were given about the character inTV Line’s report.

Ewan McGregorwas the first actor to sign on forFargoSeason 3, in the dual role of brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit is well-known as the “Parking Lot King of Minnesota” described as a handsome, self-made real estate mogul, who is living the American dream. Ray, on the other hand, is a balding, pot-bellied parole officer who peaked in high school, and blames his brother for all of his misfortunes. Ray is said to be a cautionary tale who has a huge chip on his shoulder about how his life turned out.

The only other character cast thus far isCarrie Coon’s Gloria Bungle, the chief of the Eden Valley Police department. She is a newly-divorced mother who still struggles to understand this high-tech world we live in, where people are more apt to connect with their phones than with the real people around them. Series creatorNoah Hawleyconfirmed that this season will be set “a couple of years” after Season 1, which was set in the year 2006. The second season was set in the year 1979.

Noah Hawleyalso recently teased that there may be a large gap betweenFargoSeason 3 andFargo Season 4, with Season 3 expected to debut in the fall of 2017, although a specific date hasn’t been given. FX hasn’t even renewed the show for Season 4, but if Season 3 is just as critically acclaimed as the first two seasons, a renewal will certainly happen.
