Back in 2018, during the film’s 35th anniversary celebration, Pacino reunited with his director and two of his castmates, Steven Bauer and Michelle Pfeiffer, for an illuminating Q&A panel at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. During the sit-down, Pacino and Bower discussed how they both had the luxury of working with one another a couple of months prior to the start of filming — to get to know one other and develop their characters’ unique relationship. And that bonding pays off their tireless work on the screen, as Montana and Manny’s (Bauer) close-knit comradery is tragically cut to shreds near the film’s conclusion. Pacino said to his friend and co-star (viaYouTube):
“You’re always teaching me something.”
