HBOHBO has released the first trailer for their upcoming comedy specialFerrell Takes the Field, a collaboration between the cable network,Will Ferrell’s Funny or Die and Major League Baseball. This special followsWill Ferrellas he plays every baseball position on the field for 10 different teams, all over the course of one day. The special is dedicated to helping the charity Cancer for College, and airs Sunday, September 12 at 10 PM ET on HBO.

In a role filled with hopes and dreams,Will Ferrellwent to five different spring training ballparks in Arizona. The special honors the historic feat ofBert Campanerisfive decades ago by playing every position on the field, and maybe some off the field, for ten different teams in the same day. On Sept. 8, 1965,Bert “Campy” Campaneris, in only his second major league season, went 0-for-3 playing all nine positions for the Kansas City Athletics in a game against the California Angels.

Over the course of one day,Will Ferrellplayed for the Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Cincinnati Reds, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. Along with the action on the diamond, thecomedy specialhelped raise funds by auctioning off game-used memorabilia from Ferrell’s journey across the five ballparks. The memorabilia was auctioned atMLB.comwith proceeds being donated to Cancer for College, as well as Stand Up To Cancer, a groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research.

Will Ferrellhas a long history with HBO, which broadcast his 2009 comedy specialWill Ferrell: You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W Bush. He was also an executive producer of and guest-starred in HBO’sEastbound & DownandFunny or Die Presents. The new special is executive produced byWill Ferrellin association with Gary Sanchez Productions, Funny Or Die’s Mike Farah and Joe Farrell, and Stuart Miller, and directed by Brian McGinn.

Will Ferrellmost recently starred inGet Hard, the big screencomedy moviethat debuted in March, and, most recently the LifetimeTV movieentitledA Deadly Adoption.
