Devon Sawa, the ’90s teenage heartthrob who starred in the2000 filmFinal Destination, provides an update on his potential return in the upcoming franchise sequel,Final Destination: Bloodlines. The film is set to be released by Warner Bros. on June 13, 2025, officially bringing back the franchise that took a break in 2011 withFinal Destination 5.
In the originalFinal Destination, Sawa played Alex Browning, a high school student who has a premonitory vision when he boards the plane that’ll take him and the rest of the class to Paris for a senior trip. In his vision, Browning witnesses a massacre before the plane malfunctions and explodes mid-air. Naturally, he freaks out and gets removed from the plane, along with some of his other classmates. By this point, we all know what happens next, right?

The entire franchise is built around the concept that death is inevitable. For this reason, those who avoided death, one way or another, meet their demise in gruesome, Rube Goldberg machine-like ways.TheFinal Destinationfranchise is all about creative kills, and it seems likeFinal Destination: Bloodlineswill not be the exception.
Sawa spoke to Forbesabout his latest movie, the rom-com horror slasherHeart Eyes.Sawa also spoke aboutFinal Destination: Bloodlinesand he confirmed that he won’t return for the 2025movie that also serves asa prequel to the original film. Always one to champion the horror genre, Sawa says he’s rooting for everyone involved:

“I’m not in it. Every movie has a cast of new kids. Teo Briones, who played my son in the first season of Chucky, is in it, and so I’m rooting for him. I’ve seen every Final Destination movie in the theater. I can’t wait to see what the new cast does with it. Maybe one day in the future; who knows? I’m not in this one. I hear it’s really good, though.”
The actor, who began a much-deserved renaissance a couple of years ago with roles in the TV seriesChucky, and films likeHunter HunterandConsumed, was always set to return inFinal Destination 2, but due to personal issues, it just didn’t happen. The last we saw of Alex Browning was at the conclusion ofFinal Destination 5, where it’s revealed that it takes place before the events of the original, and the surviving characters actually board the plane that will never land in Paris.
A ‘Final Destination’ Icon Will Return in ‘Bloodlines’
Sawa is sadly not returning forFinal Destination: Bloodlines, but that doesn’t mean franchise fans won’t have the pleasure of seeing a beloved character return. Tony Todd, the late actor who passed away in 2024 and whose presence in theFinal Destinationfilms was essential, will make aposthumous appearancein the sixth installment. Todd played William Bludworth, the funeral director with an insane knowledge of death and its mischievous nature.
Todd appeared in allFinal Destinationfilms, but one. He sat out forThe Final Destination, the forgettable fourth entry. InFinal Destination 3, Todd only provides the voice for the devil-like figure at the entrance of a roller coaster where innocent victims get butchered in the best opening sequence of the entireFinal Destinationuniverse.
