Long before Comic Con, most fans assumed that they would get a new trailer forStar Wars: The Force Awakensduring the LucasFilm panel on Friday. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, but directorJ.J. Abramsand producerKathleen Kennedydid showcase a wonderful behind-the-scenes video, while confirming that the third trailer will arrive sometime this fall. Last week, a rumor surfaced that thethird trailerwill arrive Monday, October 19, which is the same day that fans will be able to purchase tickets for this highly-anticipated sci-fi sequel. Thankfully, this is one rumor that did turn out to be true, with LucasFilm debuting this new trailer today, but, unfortunately, it does not offer our first look at Luke Skywalker. We do, however, get new looks at Han Solo and Princess Leia, but it’s possible that fans won’t get to see Luke Skywalker untilStar Wars: The Force Awakenshits theaters on December 18.
Yesterday, LucasFilm debuted the newStar Wars: The Force Awakens poster, which gave us our first look at the new Death Star. New merchandise that debuted last month revealed that this nefarious space station is known as the Starkiller Base, and the posted showed that this base is much different than the Death Star from the originalStar Warstrilogy. The name Starkiller is actually an homage to Luke Skywalker, since the character was originally named Luke Starkiller in early script drafts forStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. This space station will serve as the headquarters for General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) and The First Order.

The first teaser trailer that debuted in November gave us our first look at new heroes Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) andPoe Dameron(Oscar Isaac), along with the villainousKylo Ren(Adam Driver). Many fans were disappointed that none of the original trilogy stars were featured, but the second trailer that arrived duringStar Wars Celebrationin April offered our first look at Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). The behind-the-scenes video that debuted at Comic Con showcased Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) for the first time, but Luke Skywalker has still never been seen. This new trailer offers a slew of new footage featuring Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, the lovable BB-8, and Kylo Ren, who wants to finish what Darth Vader started.
There have been several rumors regarding Luke Skywalker throughout the past two years, some claiming that he has gone into exile followingStar Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, and others claiming that his original lightsaber, which was found in the desert, sends new heroes Rey and Finn on their heroic journey. No plot details have been confirmed yet, and it’s likely that we won’t learn too much about Luke Skywalker and his plight untilStar Wars: The Force Awakenshits theaters on December 18. ProducerKathleen Kennedydid offer a tantalizing tidbit earlier this month, revealing thatStar Wars: The Force Awakens,Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the JediandStar Wars: Episode IXall revolve around Skywalker’s family.

J.J. Abramsalso revealed there is a reason why Finn and Rey’s surnames have not yet been revealed, with many speculating that these characters may be the offspring of characters from the original trilogy. Finn has been spotted wielding a lightsaber in a new poster and a brief video, but new trading cards reveal he is not part of the Jedi Order, although Rey is, even though we haven’t seen her holding a lightsaber yet. This trailer showcases Finn’s showdown with the villainous Kylo RenAnother report claims that the final runtime ofStar Wars: The Force Awakensis two hours and 16 minutes, although that hasn’t been confirmed either.
