Game of Throneshas finally announced its first major cast addition for Season 7. And it’s someone that comes from the world ofHarry Potter! Earlier this month, acasting callsurfaced forGame of ThronesSeason 7, and it gave us a hint at some of the new charaters being introduced. Now, we have word that Oscar-winning actorJim Broadbenthas become the first casting addition for this highly-anticipated season. Is he playing one of these new characters?
Entertainment Weeklybroke the news, although no character details were revealed for Jim Broadbent. The site’s sources reveal that he does play a “significant” role, but they would not clarify whether or not the actor is playing one of the characters revealed in the casting call. There were nine new characters revealed forGame of Thrones Season 7, but only one fits the age range for the 67-year-old actor.
The character in question is an unnamed priest, who is in his 60s and said to have a “moral authority and gravitas.” The show is seeing a white actor who uses the British RP (Received Pronunciation) accent, and has a “characterful face.” WhileJim Broadbentcertainly does fit the bill for this character, it is also said that whoever lands this Priest role will only be used for one week of filming starting September 22nd. Since this report claims that he has a “significant” role, he will most likely be sticking around for longer than one week, and we may see quite a lot of this character when the show returns for itsSummer 2017premiere.
This report also claims that casting calls like the one that leaked this month are often “deliberately deceptive” since they often leak online. Production will take place in Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland, with theComic-Con trailerteasing that the show has started production. While the show typically debuts in either April or late March, Season 7 will arrive sometime in the summer of 2017, but an exact date hasn’t been revealed quite yet.
