Getting fired fromThe Mandalorianhasn’t exactly putGina Caranoout of work. After recently working on a Western with plans to shoot a thriller movie in early 2022, Carano has just been cast inMy Son Hunter, an unauthorized biopic of Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. The actress announced her involvement in a video that’s been posted to YouTube, which you can check out below.
My Son Hunteris directed by Robert Davi with Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney producing. It follows the son of the U.S. President, delving into his allegedly scandalous lifestyle, and is being made without the involvement of the Biden family. Carano plays a world-weary secret service agent in the movie, joining previously announced cast members Laurence Fox (Lewis) as Hunter Biden and John James (Dynasty) as Joe Biden.
“The story, the cast, the crew, the people, this is what makes art great and this is what we’re doing,” Carano said of her casting, per Deadline. “I feel excited to be working with incredible actors, a visionary director and some newfound friends as producers. The script was instantly intriguing and side achingly hilarious to me, especially after being newly exposed to the political realm in 2020.”
She added, “Robert Davi is someone who reached out to me as soon asI was ‘canceled’in Feb. 2021. I signed on in support of him and one of my favorite humans Laurence Fox. They both have always been actors I adore watching and now they both have become my friends and mentors. The icing on the cake was getting to meet John James, a wildly funny charismatic and lovable human. It is such a pleasure to be on the forefront of groundbreaking storytelling.”
Director Robert Davi also said, “When we think of the modern female, we look to women that are intelligent, feminine, strong, nurturing and vulnerable and have a sense of humor. I have been blessed by knowing women who have served our nation … I wanted an actress who the audience would believe is capable of protecting such an iconic figure as Joe Biden.”
Gina Carano, a former professional MMA fighter, is perhaps best known for her role as Cara Dune on theStar WarsseriesThe Mandalorian. After playing the character for two seasons, Carano was shown the door by Lucasfilm after posting controversial memes online, resulting in a social media campaign to #FireGinaCarano. Many fans signed apetition for Disney to bring her backto the show and her former co-star Giancarlo Esposito recently named her as his favorite person to work with onThe Mandalorian.
It’s very unlikely Carano will return to theStar Warsuniverse anytime soon, but she will be appearing in several other projects in the future.
