One of Hollywood’s most prominent actors today,Glen Powell, is set to star in Edgar Wright’s upcoming Stephen King adaptation,The Running Man. While the movie requires an atypical amount of physical effort, Powell seems to be an actor who’s physically fit for the role. Nevertheless, it looks like one of his mentors had a different opinion. Tom Cruise, his co-star inTop Gun: Maverick, had a very important piece of advice that didn’t have to do with fitness routines. It had to do with determining how cool he could look while running.
Powell, as well as Wright and the rest of the cast, appeared at CinemaCon topresent the film’s first look and trailer. Per the report by Variety, Powell grabbed the mic and told the anecdote of calling hisTop Gunco-star to ask for some advice. First, he said Cruise is “a guy that doesn’t hide his excitement about what this means, you know, the theatrical experience, and working hard and investing and putting your body on the line to entertain audiences.” He also said Cruise told him to find a camera and film himself doing sprints:

Film yourself running as soon as possible. You don’t look as cool as you think you do.
TheMission: Impossiblestar has certainly learned this lesson over time. He doesn’t always run in his movies, but when he plays Ethan Hunt, he’s always being pursued. It’s only natural that Hunt sprints occasionally, forcing Cruise to try to achieve inhuman speed when running. It was during one of these runs, while filmingMission: Impossible – Fallout, that he had to jump from one building to another, and he broke his ankle. He didn’t run fast enough, but he sure looked cool while doing it, didn’t he?

Glen Powell Went Through Serious Preparation for His Role in Stephen King’s ‘The Running Man’
The Running Manwas already adapted in 1987. The film wasloosely based on the Stephen King noveland removed some of the darker elements. It was more of an action thriller starring one of the most popular stars at the time: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Powell doesn’t exactly need to match Schwarzenegger’s performance because, apparently, the two adaptations heavily differ in tone. However, theTwistersandHit Manstar decided to seriously prepare for the role, although he said it wasn’t enough. He said he got into “bulletproof shape, just knowing I was going to have to take some hits. But I don’t think I fully prepped myself for what we tackled on this one… When you’re falling, and you’re hitting the ground, and you’re really doing it, the audience feels that.”
