Guillermo del Toro is bringing his horror sensibilities toNetflix. The Oscar-winner has teamed with the world’s largest streaming service for a new original horror anthology series titled10 After Midnight. In this new genre-defining anthology series, the acclaimed Academy Award-winning filmmaker will present a collection of personally curated stories, that are both equally sophisticated and horrific. With this first live-action series, del Toro and Netflix extend their collaboration, which began with the award-winning animated seriesTrollhunters, which returns for a new season on May 25.

InGuillermo Del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight, creator and executive producer del Toro will bring his own visionary style as both a writer and director to certain episodes. Unfortunately, he won’t be handling every episode himself, but he’s going to be heavily involved from top to bottom. In addition to the episodes he helms, del Toro will handpick a team of the genre’s best writers and exciting new filmmakers to bring his selection of stories to life. So this will present up-and-coming horror writers and directors a chance to showcase their talents.

This new project reteams Del Toro with producer J. Miles Dale, who worked onThe Shape of Waterand serves as executive producer on this new series, along with Gary Ungar of Exile Entertainment.Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnightis a Netflix production, and its first originalhorror anthology series. Netflix has produced plenty of horror content in the past, such as the seriesHemlock Grove, and movies likeVeronica,The Ritualand Stephen King adaptationsGerald’s Gameand1922.

Guillermo del Toro has been capitalizing ever sinceThe Shape of Watertook the Oscars by storm, ultimately garnering 13 nominations. The movie, in total, won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Score and Best Production Design. In addition to this new series for Netflix, the beloved filmmaker also signed an overall deal with Fox Searchlight and will work with the studio to create a whole new genre movie division. Del Toro has had his fans for years now, but he’s been given some major platforms to showcase his work and ideas. Ultimately, it’s probably for the best that he didn’t get caught up with projects likePacific Rim 2andHellboy 3, as they would have taken up a bunch of his time and prevented things like this from happening.

Currently, there is no word on when we can expect10 After Midnightto premiere, but Guillermo del Toro is also finally working on hisScary Stories to Tell in the Darkmovie, so he’s got a lot on his plate. Though,Netflix streaming servicedid say that the series is coming “soon,” but that could mean a lot of things. Even if we have to wait a bit, this sounds like a perfect fit for del Toro and could be an excellent treat for horror fans. It might even help toease the pain of TNT having to ditchM. Night Shyamalan’sTales From the Cryptreboot last year.
