Halloween 2 Finds Its Writer, Original Cast Returning But Not Director?

It appears that Scott Teems has been tapped by Blumhouse to write their upcomingHalloween 2. It’s also believed that the original cast will be returning when the cameras start rolling. Teems recently wrote adaptations of Stephen King’sFirestarterandThe Breathing Methodfor Blumhouse. When previously asked about the possibility of a sequel, star Jamie Lee Curtis claimed that she did not know what was going on, but said that she would get involved if David Gordon Green were back writing the story.

Now, it appears thatDavid Gordon Greenis not on board forHalloween 2. According to sources, Scott Teems will be taking over for the sequel, but Blumhouse has yet to officially comment on the matter. Those same sources claim that Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak are all expected to return. Original Mike Myers actor Nick Castle has expressed a desire to come back, but that has not been confirmed at this time either. For now, it looks like there are some big developments going on behind-the-scenes.

The latestHalloweenwas abox officesuccess, so it’s really a no-brainer that Blumhouse wants to continue with the franchise, even though some hardcore horror fans were not pleased with what they saw on the big screen. However, David Gordon Green was able to tap into the spirit of the original movie, which probably came from having John Carpenter on board as an executive producer. Green and Carpenter exchanged a lot of notes and Carpenter focused mainly on reworking the score, which he enjoyed.

Speaking of John Carpenter, he too says that he would like to come back for theHalloweensequel. The composer/writer/director is currently taking a break from working on the latest movie and going out on tour. However, when the time comes, he will be ready with his team to get to work on a new score. Carpenter worked with his son Cody Carpenter, and godson, Daniel Davies and says that he and the team will reconvene to get some more ideas together. It will be interesting to see if he decides to deviate a bit more from the original. Hopefully they are already trying out some new ideas for the sequel.

For now, it looks like theHalloweensequel is getting ready for development. However, we’re still pretty far out from hearing anything about casting and release dates. Plus, this information is coming from sources, which means that it could have pretty much come from anywhere, so we’ll throw this one in the rumor pile for now, at least until we hear otherwise from Blumhouse or anyone else involved in the project.
