In this day and age, where seemingly every TV show is being rebooted for the modern age, it’s surprising that there hasn’t been a successfulKnight Riderreboot. NBC tried back in 2008, but that only lasted one season, and didn’t have original starDavid Hasseloffinvolved in the project. While promoting his new filmKilling Hasselhoff, which is available on DVD and Digital HD formats, the actor reveals that there may actually be hope for aKnight RiderTV reboot on Netflix. Here’s what he had to say about the possibility ofGuardians of the Galaxy 2director James Gunn potentially being involved, when it was being discussed as a movie reboot.

“You know, I don’t have the guts to say, ‘Hey James, lets do this movie, put me in as Zardu Hasselfrau in the nextGuardians.’ I won’t do it, I just won’t. I’ll never do it. I’ll wait, and if it happens, it happens.Knight Rider, I mentioned it to him. I said I was at El Rey, talking to (Robert) Rodriguez, sayingKnight Ridercomes back, he’s pissed off, you know, it’s dark. And, the next two or three months later, I get a call, saying ‘Let’s have some lunch’ and ‘I can’t get this out of my head,’ about the conversation that we had. When we go to make the release of the (Guardians Inferno) video last week, he goes, ‘Well I’m not doingKnight Rider. I can’t. The rights are with this company I can’t work with. I’m not doing it.'”

The Hoffmade these revelations while promoting theUniversal Pictures Home EntertainmentmovieKilling Hasselhoff. We reported in October that there was aKnight Rider rebootcoming to Machinima sometime this year, from director Justin Lin, but there have been no updates on this potential project at this time, and it isn’t known if it’s still moving forward. However, David Hasselhoff went on to reveal that thisKnight RiderTV reboot may actually happen on Netflix now. Here’s what the actor had to say about his conversations with James Gunn about turning the movie reboot into a TV reboot.

“He said, ‘You know, I just really wanted to do it dark and put it on Netflix. And I’m going, ‘Gee, I wonder where that idea came from.’ I didn’t say anything, but then I said ‘The company you’re talking about owns the movie rights, but they don’t own the TV rights.’ He takes out his phone, and now, game on. And now, I’ve already spoken to them. I’ve spoken to Netflix and I’ve spoken to Universal, and we’ll see. If it happens, you’ll probably hear me scream all the way from Calabasas, because that’s my dream.”

The news of this TV reboot comes just after reports that aKnight Ridermovie is in the works, with John Cena and Kevin Hart reportedly being eyed to star. The project, which comes from The Weinstein Company, is said to be in the same vein as the21 Jump Streetmovies, which essentially spoofed the original series. If this does come together, then John Cena will star as Michael Knight, David Hasselhoff’s character from the original series, with Kevin Hart lending his voice to the iconic talking car K.I.T.T. It certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see aKnight Riderreboot happen on Netflix, since the streaming service is responsible for bringing back several iconic TV shows such asFull House,One Day at a Timeand many more. It remains unclear if this reboot will actually see the light of day, but it certainly seems promising at this point. This news comes shortly after theDavid Hasselhoff cameohelped save theBaywatchreboot from completely bombing at the box office.
