This year’s Star Wars Celebration event in Japan has been packed with tons of exciting announcements and reveals, but the Force was particularly strong with the news coming out of theAhsokapanel. The Disney+ show’s creator, Dave Filoni, executive producer Jon Favreau, and lead star Rosario Dawson were joined on stage by none other thanHayden Christensen, who promptly confirmed that he is reprising the role of Anakin Skywalker inAhsokaSeason 2, with production on the highly anticipated second seasonexpected to begin imminently.
The official Star Wars account on X/Twitter shared the news widely by posting a photo (seen below) of Christensen onstage, where he was no doubt greeted with rapturous applause from the crowd in response to the announcement of his return. The post reads, “See you inAhsokaSeason 2, Skyguy” — a nickname Ahsoka Tano gave Anakin during the Clone Wars era. The actor is pictured holding a microphone, but he couldn’t give too much away about his next outing in the galaxy far, far away, other than confirming his involvement in the series oppositeanother legendaryStar Warscharacter.

I mean, there’s not much that I can share, but Anakin will be back for Season 2.
Ahsoka: How Anakin’s Final Lesson Changed Everything
The padawan needs one last lesson. Here’s how Anakin’s final lesson in Ahsoka episode 5 changed everything.
The specifics of Christensen’s role inAhsokaSeason 2 are yet to be revealed, so it’s unclear at this stage how much screen time Anakin will be given and how the Chosen One will be utilized in the show’s next eight-episode run. However, for fans of theStar Warsuniverse, this is where the fun begins, as there is plenty of time to speculate and theorize about what might be in store for the fan-favorite character, especially in the wake ofhis unexpected return last seasonand the pivotal part he played in Ahsoka’s journey.

Hayden Christensen Took a Long Hiatus From Acting
Christensen famously portrayed Anakin Skywalker (aka the future Darth Vader) in 2002’sStar Wars: Attack of the Clonesand 2005’sStar Wars: Revenge of the Sith. He then shifted his attention to other projects, but none had the significance ofhis role in the long-running space opera, and little by little, he moved away from the cameras. He took a four-year acting hiatus from 2010 to 2014, and later made his return to theStar Warsuniverse for a voice cameo inStar Wars: The Clone Warsbefore reprising Anakin and Vader in the live-action Disney+ showsObi-Wan KenobiandAhsoka.
The last time Christensen was seen as Anakin on screen was inthe final episode ofAhsokaSeason 1, which ended on an emotional note with a shot of his Force ghost watching over Ahsoka and Sabine, stranded on the distant world of Peridea. He sports his Jedi Master robes, similar to those worn inStar Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, and looks poised to help guide Ahsoka and possibly train Sabine in the next season, while Grand Admiral Thrawn advances his mission and returns to the galaxy to galvanize the Imperial Remnant against the New Republic — but not if Snips and Skyguy have anything to do with it.
