Henry Cavillhas at last confirmed his role in the long-gestatingHighlanderreboot, revealing that he will soon start training for the action fantasy epic. Speaking withCollider, Cavill declared that the training he will require to wield the sword of the Highlander will soon begin “in earnest,” but remained tight-lipped about the rest of the project, wanting to keep everything else “under wraps” for now. See what Cavill had to say about his role in the Highlander remake below…
“The training is about to begin in earnest. It’ll be a very long training process, and I’m very excited to get into it. There’s only so much I can tell you at the moment. I want to keep everything under wraps for as long as possible.”

Considering Cavill has undergone sword training before for the Netflix seriesThe Witcher, but still needs “a very long training process” for Highlander, we can only imagine the sword-clashing spectacle that will be on display. After many, many years in production (it was getting nearer to the stage that only the immortals among us would see it come to fruition), theHighlanderremake is now a go, and will beJohn Wick: Chapter 4director Chad Stahelski’s next project.
Highlanderis expected to follow a similar plot to the 1986 original, which follows swordsman Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) as he discovers that he is one of a number of immortal warriors who can be killed only by beheading. After living somewhat peacefully for several centuries, MacLeod settles in New York City and is soon dragged back onto the battlefield when his greatest enemy returns to kill him and thus obtain “the Prize” — a special ability that is given to the last living immortal warrior.

The Highlander Reboot Will Tackle the Burden of Immortality
Highlander
Stahelksi has previously heaped praise onHenry Cavilland his approach to playing the titular immortal warrior, with the filmmaker impressed withMan of Steelstars thoughts on “the burden of immortality.”
“The character’s arc spans hundreds of years and he becomes many different personalities, all of which extend the timeline of his emotional growth. Then during our first meeting, my suspicions were confirmed: Henry was immediately riffing on the idea of the burden of immortality and you could see in his eyes that he can transform himself from being a young, vibrant soul to an old, wise soul. He had this combination I was fascinated by.”

The firstHighlanderspawned a franchise off the back of the first movie, including sequels, TV spinoffs, and comics, with Stahelski hoping to do the same with the reboot.
“Highlander, I can tell you right now, if we’ve got our sh-t together and pull off a feature, we’ve got ideas for days about how to make the coolest characters and make that an epic TV show. I just think that’s a rich, rich, rich mythology. you may pick any period in time, any nationality, any culture, any type of person and make them an immortal that have to duel and deal with the burden of immortality? That’s f-cking cool to me.”

TheHighlanderreboot currently has arelease date window of 2026. Henry Cavill, meanwhile, will next take to the big screen in the spy flickArgyllefrom director Matthew Vaughn, which is due to land in theaters on June 14, 2025. Check out the trailer below.
