Avengers: Endgamealmost had a funny callback toAnt-Man and the Wasp. AfterInfinity Warhit theaters, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans needed something with some light and humor. Luckily, Marvel Studios had theAnt-Mansequel ready to go, which would detail Scott Lang’s time after the events ofCaptain America: Civil War. The sequel ended up paving the way forEndgame, thanks to Hank Pym’s technology and the Quantum Realm.
In one particularAnt-Man and the Waspscene, Scott Lang is shown going about his normal day while on home confinement. The montage scene is set to theThe Partridge Family’s hit theme song “Come On Get Happy,” and shows Paul Rudd’s Lang going about a day of trying to keep himself busy. InAvengers: Endgame, editor Jeff Ford says that the song was going to come back for the latest movie. He explains.
“There was also an additional joke where Rudd and Evangeline were in the van, and they’re trying to hot-wire it, and he twists a couple of wires, and the radio comes on and it plays that Partridge Family song fromAnt-Man and the Waspthat he was into. The Outriders go (imitates their heads popping up). I always thought it was funny that the Outriders heard the Partridge Family, and they start coming at the van and he’s like ‘Aww, I’m sorry!'”
While the aforementioned scene didn’t make it intoAvengers: Endgame, one could easily imaginePaul Rudd and Evangeline Lillyacting that out during the epic battle portion of the movie. It also would have been a cool callback toAnt-Man and the Wasp, but there was already too much stuff to cram into the movie. It’s amazing that they were able to put as much as they did into it.
SinceAvengers: Endgame Blu-raybecame available, screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have been talking a lot about the movie and original ideas that they had. They have been going back and discussingInfinity Wartoo, even detailing a scene that would have had Captain America eating some bloody mashed potatoes. When all is said and done, McFeely, Markus, the Russo Brothers, and Kevin Feige were able to create a satisfying ending to the Infinity Saga, though it technically ended withSpider-Man: Far From Home.
Ant-Man 3 is officially happeningwith the return of director Peyton Reed. Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly will also be returning, but it’s unclear if Michelle Pfeiffer will be involved or not. The actress previously mentioned that she would like to the return to the MCU. As for what the story will be about, we’ll probably see what life has been like post-Endgamewith the Decimation, or Blip, or Snap, going behind this new world. Some fans are theorizing thatAnt-Man 3will provide a gateway for introducingFantastic Fourto the MCU. Hopefully some more information about the sequel will be announced soon.
