Last month, it was rumored that Universal Pictures may be promoting its upcoming action-adventureThe Huntsman: Winter’s WarduringSuper Bowl 50, which made sense since we hadn’t gotten any new footage since thefirst trailerdebuted back in November. As it turned out, the studio didn’t shell out $5 million to promote the movie during the big game, but, just yesterday, Universal did unveil a second trailer, which teased the war betweenCharlize Theron’s Ravenna andEmily Blunt’s Freya, two sisters vying for the same throne. Today,Universalhas released a 60-second TV spot, which shows how these sisters were once inseparable before they engaged in warfare.

This story is set several years before 2012’sSnow White and the Huntsman, withChris Hemsworthreturning as theHuntsman, althoughKristen Stewartis not coming back as Snow White. Long before the evil Queen Ravenna was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya, suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen, including Eric (Chris Hemsworthand warrior Sara (Jessica Chastain). Only now she has found that her prized two have defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.

When FreyaThe Ice Queenlearns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkest force it’s ever seen. Now, their amassing army shall prove undefeatable…unless the banished huntsmen who broke their queen’s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another. In The Huntsman: Winter’s War, it will be revealed that Eric and Ravenna’s destinies are deeply and dangerously intertwined.

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan makes his directorial debut with The Huntsman: Winter’s War. But it’s not the first time he’s wondered through these woods. The filmmaker previously served as the VFX supervisor forSnow White and the Huntsman. And the film is in the hands of producer Joe Roth, who is responsible forMaleficentandAlice in Wonderland.
