A24’s trailer for their upcomingIn Fabriclooks like a peculiar thriller. Peter Strickland is behind the camera for the movie, which has been called a British horror comedy about a killer dress. Reviews have praised Strickland for his take on the material, which hits North American theaters later this year. While the trailer certainly looks like the work of Strickland, there are also elements of classic horror thrown into the mix, which fans of the genre should enjoy checking out.

In Fabriccenters on a lonely woman played byMarianne Jean-Baptiste, who is recently separated from her husband. She visits a bewitching London department store in search of a dress that will transform her life for an upcoming date. She’s fitted with a perfectly flattering, artery-red gown-which, in time, will come to unleash a malevolent curse and unstoppable evil, threatening everyone who comes into its path.

In Fabric

Peter Strickland(the singular auteur behind the sumptuous sadomasochistic romanceThe Duke of Burgundyand auditory gaillo-homageBerberian Sound Studio) has made a truly nightmarish movie withIn Fabric. The movie is at turns frightening, seductive, and darkly humorous, which is all obvious after watching the trailer for the movie. Strickland is channeling voyeuristic fantasies of high fashion and bloodshed and the movie has been hailed as Strickland’s most twisted and brilliantly original vision yet. It certainly looks very original in terms of storyline, but in terms of the horror elements, it is wearing its influences on its sleeve.

In addition to Marianne Jean-Baptiste,In Fabricalso stars Hayley Squires, Leo Bill, and Gwendoline Christie, along with a killer red dress and a seriously possessed washing machine. The movie premiered at last year’sToronto International Film Festivaland A24 was quick to pick it up for wide distribution. Production onIn Fabricstarted back in 2017 from a script Peter Strickland wrote. Andy Starke serves as a producer on the movie, while Ian Benson, Lizzie Francke, Rose Garnett, Stephen Kelliher, Patrick Howson, Phil Hunt, and Compton Ross will serve as an executive producers.

In Fabricdoes not have an official release date in North America at this time, but A24 will more than likely announce one soon, especially since the movie has already been receiving praise for its quirky storyline and awesome visuals. The trailer is a weird two minutes and it sets the tone well for what viewers are in for when the movie finally does hit theaters. With that being said, it is going to be interesting to see how horror fans react to the movie when it is finally released this year. It could either become an instant classic, or fade away into obscurity, but the trailer seems to point to the first option. With that being said, you can check out the killer dress in all of its glory below, thanks to theA24’s YouTubechannel.
