Back in April,The IncrediblesdirectorBrad Birdrevealed he has started thescreenplayfor the long-awaited sequelThe Incredibles 2. While it has been 11 years since the original animated hit debuted in theaters, fans are still hungry for a follow-up to this superhero adventure, and while we still don’t know when it may hit theaters, the sequel is most certainly happening. During a new interview withCollider,Brad Birdrevealed he is almost done with his first draft of the script, although he wouldn’t reveal any story details.
“I have the story arc. I’m probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we’re already boarding parts of it. I’ve got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we’re all having a good time with it.”
Brad Birdwent on to confirm in May thatThe Incredibles 2is the filmmaker’s next movie, but that’s about all we know about the project so far. It is believed thatCraig T. Nelson,Holly HunterandSamuel L. Jacksonwill return to reprise their voice roles, but it’s too early on in the process to tell for sure. When asked if he had arelease datein mind yet,Brad Birdhad this to say.
“In terms of the release date, we were originally-The Incredibleswas supposed to happen afterCars, and our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up. Release dates are a little fluid when you’re making films so far in advance. Some films are tougher to come together and tough nuts to crack, and other ones comes together a little more quickly, and so I’m just going to work as fast as I can work well with a relatively small team because I like small teams better until you’ve got everything firmly figured out.”
The filmmaker’s publicist later clarified that the filmmaker was referring to the originalIncrediblesmovie, which was supposed to open after the originalCars. As it turned out, though,The Incredibleshit theaters in 2004, whileCarshit theaters two years later in 2006. Disney is also developingCars 3, but no release date was set for thatanimated sequelyet.
