Will we get anIron Man 4starringRobert Downey Jr.after all? That sounds possible if we’re to believe the actor. While it sounded like another solo adventure was set to happen a few years ago, those plans seemed to be dashed when the actor announced himself forCaptain America: Civil War. NoIron Man 4was announced as part of Marvel Phase 4. And it seemed like we’d only be getting the occasional Tony Stark cameo from here on out.
But perhaps that’s not the case. Marvel has not yet announced its plans forMarvel Phase 4, though they have set the first three release dates after 2020. We know thatGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is part of this line-up. And Marvel bossKevin Feigehas teased the possibility of aBlack Widowstandalone adventure. Now, speaking withNightlineon Disney owned ABC,Robert Downey Jr.had this to say about returning inIron Man 4.
“[I feel] like I could do one more.”
That is no confirmation thatIron Man 4will actually happen. But it’s a good start. There won’t be any shortage ofTony Starkin the coming years.Robert Downey Jr.reprises the iconic Marvel Superhero in next weekend’sCaptain America: Civil War, co-starring in the movie. He is also already confirmed for a role in 2017’sSpider-Man: Homecoming. Though, it isn’t yet known how substantial the role in that Peter Parker reboot will be.
The actor is also set to pull on his Iron Man armor forAvengers: Infinity War Part 1in 2018. Though, it’s not yet known if he will appear inPart 2. These next two Avengers movies are said to obliterate the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it, rebuilding something new. But ifRobert Downey Jr.thinks he has one more solo movie in him, then he probably won’t die in this two-part Marvel epic.
OriginalIron MandirectorJon Favreauis coming back as an executive producer forInfinity War. And he’s said he is interested in returning to the superhero world to direct yet another movie. CouldIron Man 4reunite the star and first director of the franchise for one epic swan song? We’ll probably have to wait until at least Comic-Con to find out. But there is definitely hope.
