The Roxie Theater in San Francisco is offering a “Bring Your Own Dog” screening of Wes Anderson’sIsle of Dogson March 19th. The screening follows a successful attempt at bringing dogs to the theater from last month when they held the national NY Dog Film Festival, which was started after a successful 2016 national tour in 10 other cities. Theaters were packed with dogs and their people for 75-minutes of canine-themed short films. The Roxie Theater Dog Film Festival event went so well that they’re planning theIsle of Dogscreening to do the same.
According to the press release from the Roxie Theater, the event is “Bring Your Own Dog,” or “BYOD,” as one will not be provided for you. Additionally, you can attend without a dog, but like themutts, you will be ejected for aggressive or other bad behaviors. If you plan to attend, you also have to buy a ticket for your canine friend. The press release reads.
“This is a BYOD event! Dogs are invited and will be in attendance at this screening. Dogs and owners will each need to have a ticket to attend. You do not need to have/bring a dog to attend. Owners are responsible for their dog’s behavior. Overlyaggressive or uncontrollabledogs will be asked to leave.”
Isle of Dogsis a2018 stop-motion animation movie, which was also written and directed by Wes Anderson. It’sWes Anderson’s second animated movieafter 2009’sFantastic Mr. Foxand it features a talented voice cast, including Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray (who returns from many other Wes Anderson projects), Jeff Goldblum, and Bob Balaban.Isle of Dogswas the opening movie of the 68th Berlin International Film Festival and it opens officially on March 23rd.
Isle of Dogstakes place in adystopian future of Japan, where dogs have been quarantined on a remote island by Mayor Kobayashi because they have the “canine flu.” Atari (Koyu Rankin), a young boy, takes off to the dog island to search for his dog named Spots (Liev Schrieber). Dogs Chief, the leader of the dogs (Bryan Cranston), Rex (Edward Norton), Boss (Bill Murray), Duke (Jeff Goldblum), and King (Bob Balaban) help him search for Spots and evade the Japanese authorities.
Isle of Dogslooks like the perfect movie to watch in a theater full of dogs and dog lovers, plus you get to watch the movie n advance before anybody else. you may get more information from the Roxie Theater, but the screening will take place on March 19th and 4 PM Pacific Time. This is currently the only “BYOD” screening offered at this time. However, more theaters across the country may follow suit after the success of the “BYOD” screenings of the past few years.
