The actor is currently on location in France to shoot the film. A first look image, which has been released courtesy ofDeadline, finds Depp sporting full royal regalia while wearing a blindfold with the actor set to star alongside Maïwenn as Jeanne du Barry. you may check out the image for yourself below.

Depp will star as Louis XV for director Maïwenn inJeanne du Barry, with the movie telling the tale of the last maîtresse-en-titre (which roughly means royal mistress) of King Louis XV of France. The plot will detail the life of Jeanne Bécu who was born as the illegitimate daughter of an impoverished seamstress in 1743 and went on to rise through the Court of Louis XV to become his last official mistress. As described by the report,Jeanne du Barry“is freely inspired by the life of Jeanne du Barry, Louis XV’s last royal mistress at the Court of Versaille, after Madame de Pompadour.”

“Born into poverty, she is a young working-class woman hungry for culture and pleasure who uses her intelligence and allure to climb the rungs of the social ladder one by one,” the description continues. “She becomes Louis XV’s favorite companion. Unaware of her status as a courtesan, he regains his appetite for life thanks to their relationship. They fall madly in love. Against all propriety and etiquette, Jeanne moves to Versailles, where her arrival scandalizes the court.”

Spoilers for a real-life story that wrapped up centuries ago, Madame du Barry met her end by execution by guillotine during the French Revolution after being found guilty of treason.
